South Carolina State University (Chemistry and Biology)
University of Phoenix (Master's)
I am a graduate from South Carolina State University with dual B.S. degrees in Chemistry and Biology. I also have an MBA degree. I love to tutor/teach especially subjects involving numbers. Hence Algebra, Calculus, and Accounting are a few of my favorites. Other subjects I am particularly passionate about are Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy, and Physiology. I have worked as a tutor for K-12 students, including AP coursework. Also, I have worked as a teaching assistant for general chemistry and biochemistry classes. I earned no less than a B in the following courses with most being an A: Pre-Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Algebra 1 & 2, Trigonometry, Calculus 1 & 2, Accounting, Differential Equations, Zoology, Botany, Anatomy & Physiology, Physics (algebra & calculus based), and Microbiology. Although I was a Chemistry/Biology major, I took Accounting in undergraduate because I believe everyone should know certain skills for success in life and I earned an A!
While I tutored for an independent company for grades K-12, students were able to better understand skills in Reading, Algebra, Calculus and Trigonometry. I also, tutored students while I attended college in General Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organics, Microbiology, and Biological Sciences. What you would learn from my tutelage are basic study skills that will apply to any course you take throughout your learning life. Great study skills will take you very far in life because you master concepts instead of memorizing. I love science and live for it! I have a unique approach to understanding and mastering the biological processes that will remain a strong skill throughout life. You will learn short-cuts and mnemonics to apply to biological processes. Additionally, I can teach you tips and tricks on how to break apart word problems to make them simple. You will also learn basic concepts in mathematics to solving equations and then applying the equation.
A little about me... I am a fun and positive individual who is diverse in many areas. Some of my hobbies include trail hiking/walking, mountain climbing, dancing, singing, and reading novels. I am very tenacious and if I do not know the answer to a question, I will most definitely have an answer within hours ~ learning is one of my favorite pastimes! Please feel free to contact me if you believe my profile to be what you desire. If the effort is put forth on both sides, you will receive your best grade under my tutelage. And best believe I will put forth every effort to making you successful during the learning process. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you soon! Valerie has a very pleasant disposition. She has a lot of knowledge about the subject matter. I learned new and better ways, to solve problems and understand subject material. I am very grateful, for her patience and love of tutoring. I would definitely recommend Valerie, as a tutor.
Valerie was prepared with a lesson plan to cover topics my son is studying in Biology 101. She explained things very well.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Biology is one of those areas that can require immense studying in order to retain the information. What happens when most people attempt to learn a lot of information at once? One resorts to short-term memorizing. This leads to no framework of organizing the information for later recall and no application for solving new concepts. Well, I have successfully taken over 50 exams pertaining to the biological processes. I have also taken Masters level courses in biology as reinforcement. Believe me, memorizing does not help one become successful. One has to develop a system for retaining the information.
I have earned a Bachelors degree in biology while simultaneously earning a chemistry degree. This was not an easy task. I developed a system to mastering biological concepts and pathways. I can teach you my applications that will relate to every aspect in your learning life. Furthermore, I can teach you how to realize the connection between major concepts which will broaden your understanding of biology.
I didn't always like chemistry but with time I grew to love it. I spent countless hours laboring over chemistry concepts, trying to determine how to understand what was being asked in the problems. Hence, I decided to declare chemistry as a major to be able to conquer the hold it had over me. Overtime, I developed algorithms and methods of how to approach each question that allowed me to understand what was being asked. You don't have to major in chemistry to become an expert at chemistry. Since I now have mastered the chemistry concepts, I can explain how you can too.
They say the art of writing takes skill and passion. If you don't have the passion for writing, I can teach the skill behind it. In this millennial age, instructors are opting for students writing great papers at the middle school, high school and most certainly at the college level in addition to taking exams.
I have written over 100 papers as a graduate student and earned an A on 100% of them. That statistic doesn't include papers in which I assisted classmates by proofing. That makes me well-qualified and an expert at writing.
At the Master's degree level, most of one's work comes from properly researching the subject-matter and effectively translating research to black and white while ensuring one's paper is authentically yours. Instructors are very serious about plagiarism and I don't blame them. Hence, l can help write winning papers whether technical, expository, descriptive, persuasive, or narrative. Let me help you learn the art and skill of writing too.
