Hello, Parents and Students! I have a passion for English Language Arts! I can help you/your struggling reader/writer, from age 5 through adulthood.
A lot has changed in the world in recent months. Education is evolving, and there may continue to be restructuring for a while. Consistency is essential, particularly with developing and maintaining reading and writing skills. Summer learning is important, especially now. Reinforcing skills learned in the classroom and during online learning this school year is vital as we prepare for the next chapter in education.

I will use assessment materials to determine your present skill level, and build upon that level, sustaining your engagement through the use of materials based on your interests! Summer learning can be fun!

I use research-based methodologies for developing phonics, spelling, reading comprehension, and writing skills. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham, Lively Letters, Recipe for Reading, Project Read, Lindamood Bell, Wilson, and Won Way. My students have used the Lexia Core 5 computer program, which addresses all five components of reading, to supplement 1:1 instruction after a session.

A Special Message to High School and College Students- In many ways, you have been affected the most by the recent changes. You have had to make adjustments to your plans, and even your goals (For now-It will get better, and you will realize your dreams!)I can help students of all ages with reading and writing! My methods for the teaching of reading comprehension can be applied to text at any level. These methods lead to better writing, note-taking, and study skills. Let me help you to be more prepared for what comes next.

I am a recently-retired educator with over thirty years of experience in education. I provided direct instruction, administered screenings and comprehensive assessments, served as a liaison for students, and provided consultation and staff development for teachers. Many of my students faced the challenges of ADHD or a Learning Disability, and met

Common Core

I hold a certificate from the University of Massachusetts-Boston in Adapting the Curriculum Frameworks for All Learners. To earn this certificate, I was required to demonstrate knowledge of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, a precursor to the standards now known as the Common Core. As a student in this program and in my subsequent daily role as a teacher, I was required to adapt my lessons and objectives to meet the needs of each learner, while working toward grade level expectations established by the Common Core. I possess a good working knowledge of the scope and sequence of the skills in each subject area at the elementary level.
Elementary (K-6th),

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught all subjects in grades K-6 for the last 24 years. My most recent experience has been with grades 4 and 5(10 years), supporting students in the general education setting and in small groups outside the classroom. I hold certification in MA in Early Childhood Education(K-3) for students with and without disabilities.
Phonics,

Phonics

I am trained and experienced in several methods, including: Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Won Way, Recipe for Reading, Lively Letters, and Lindamood Bell. I have over 30 years of experience teaching phonics to struggling readers of all ages. I am skilled in the assessment of basic skills to determine a baseline to inform and drive instruction. I integrate phonics instruction in lessons that cover all subject areas, to allow for growth in the content areas while increasing phonemic and phonological awareness.
Reading,

Reading

I am trained and experienced in several reading methodologies and programs, such as Project Read for fiction and nonfiction that target reading comprehension and all five components of reading- phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. These strategies can be applied to text in all subject areas, and lead to better writing and note-taking skills as well as reading comprehension. These skills are a must for Middle School students! Although my most recent experience has been with elementary level students, my focus in the last ten years has been at the upper elementary level, and I taught Middle School and High School for six years.
Spelling,

Spelling

I have over thirty years of experience with teaching spelling. I am trained in several phonics/reading methodologies which help in the development of good spelling skills, in addition to good reading skills. These methods develop phonemic awareness and phonological awareness, which are essential to the development of good spellers. My methods give students the tools to improve spelling in spontaneous writing. Through the use of syllable rules, spelling patterns, prefixes, suffixes and root words, I give students the tools to read, define, and to spell words in content area material such as Science.
