*****I AM ACCEPTING STUDENTS GRADES 1-6 at this time-preferably in the Eastern Time Zone-but I will do my best to accommodate students in other time zones****
Parents of homeschooled students-I am actively seeking homeschooled students. Please allow me to assist you with homeschooling your child. I have a comprehensive knowledge of the Common Core Standards for all students. I offer consultations, resources, and assessments, as well as tutoring. If you would prefer to deliver the lessons yourself, I can assist you with designing an appropriate, individualized, curriculum for your child.
To all parents and students-I have a passion for English Language Arts! I can help you/your struggling reader/writer. I identify individual strengths and challenges, and use that information to motivate and engage them.
I use research-based methodologies for developing phonics, spelling, reading comprehension, and writing skills. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham, Lively Letters, Recipe for Reading, Project Read, Lindamood Bell, Wilson, and Won Way.
I am a recently-retired educator with over thirty years of experience in education. I provided direct instruction, administered screenings and comprehensive assessments, served as a liaison for students, and provided consultation and staff development for teachers. Many of my students faced the challenges of ADHD or a Learning Disability, and met their personal goals for improvement through my instruction. I possess a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master's Degree in Special Education, and I completed Post-Graduate work in adapting the curriculum for all learners at the University of Massachusetts-Boston. I have taught students in Kindergarten through aged 22. I hold certifications from Massachusetts in both general education and in special education. Additionally, I have an endorsement as a Structured English Immersion Teacher. I have experience in the teaching and assessment of English Learners in urban settings with diverse populations.

Common Core,

Common Core

I hold a certificate from the University of Massachusetts-Boston in Adapting the Curriculum Frameworks for All Learners. To earn this certificate, I was required to demonstrate knowledge of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, a precursor to the standards now known as the Common Core. As a student in this program and in my subsequent daily role as a teacher, I was required to adapt my lessons and objectives to meet the needs of each learner, while working toward grade level expectations established by the Common Core. I possess a good working knowledge of the scope and sequence of the skills in each subject area at the elementary level.
Elementary (K-6th),

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught all subjects in grades K-6 for the last 24 years. My most recent experience has been with grades 4 and 5(10 years), supporting students in the general education setting and in small groups outside the classroom. I hold certification in MA in Early Childhood Education(K-3) for students with and without disabilities.
Homeschool,

Homeschool

I am a seasoned educator with over thirty years of experience. I have used my expertise to support and supplement student instruction in hybrid and homeschool environments -through planning, resources, and additional instruction with the student. I work in tandem with the family, school, and outside agencies to provide a well-rounded course of instruction, which includes addressing the Common Core standards. English Language Arts at the elementary level is my specialty, but I have experience in all subjects and grades.
Phonics,

Phonics

I am trained and experienced in several methods, including: Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Won Way, Recipe for Reading, Lively Letters, and Lindamood Bell. I have over 30 years of experience teaching phonics to struggling readers of all ages. I am skilled in the assessment of basic skills to determine a baseline to inform and drive instruction. I integrate phonics instruction in lessons that cover all subject areas, to allow for growth in the content areas while increasing phonemic and phonological awareness.
Reading,

Reading

I am trained and experienced in several reading methodologies and programs, such as Project Read for fiction and nonfiction that target reading comprehension and all five components of reading- phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. These strategies can be applied to text in all subject areas, and lead to better writing and note-taking skills as well as reading comprehension. These skills are a must for Middle School students! Although my most recent experience has been with elementary level students, my focus in the last ten years has been at the upper elementary level, and I taught Middle School and High School for six years.
Spelling,

Spelling

I have over thirty years of experience with teaching spelling. I am trained in several phonics/reading methodologies which help in the development of good spelling skills, in addition to good reading skills. These methods develop phonemic awareness and phonological awareness, which are essential to the development of good spellers. My methods give students the tools to improve spelling in spontaneous writing. Through the use of syllable rules, spelling patterns, prefixes, suffixes and root words, I give students the tools to read, define, and to spell words in content area material such as Science.
