Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I am a graduate of the US Naval Academy with a BS Degree. I was certified to teach high school math in SC and did so for four years before retiring. I am very interested in helping students improve the math skills and have been successful in doing so.

Algebra 2

AS a graduate of the US Naval Academy, I am well educated in math and engineering. I was certified in SC to teach high school math which I did for four years before retiring. I have helped others achieve success improving their math skills by providing planned lessons and follow-up to insure understanding of the subject being taught.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored elementary students in math, reading and writing. Having taught in middle school, I am very familiar with students' needs in these areas and am very patient in dealing with young students. I have experience tutoring k-6th students in math, writing, reading, and grammar. Before entering the Naval Academy, I was at Boston College School of Education as an education major. I tutored elementary students during that period as part of my course work.

Elementary Math

I was a high school math teacher but have let my certification expire in retirement. I graduated from the US Naval Academy with a BS degree and am a competent math teacher. I have worked with elementary and middle school students in a home school environment providing lesson plans for each lesson with assignments to monitor the students progress.

GED

I was certified to teach high school in SC. After retiring, I have worked with students who did not graduate high school and pursued getting their GED. I am very interested in helping individuals improve their skills and chances for employment.

Geometry

As a certified high school math teacher, I have worked with many students as their tutor in geometry. I have a BS degree in Engineering from the US Naval Academy and also taught high school math for four years before retiring. I am very willing to spend the time and effort to help a student achieve success and understanding in a subject which is challenging their abilities.

Prealgebra

As a teacher certified in SC to teach high school math and a graduate Of the US naval Academy with a BS degree, I have tutored many students in prealgebra. I provide lesson plans for each session with assigned problems for the student to work on before the next session. I follow-up on each student to insure their success and provide refresher time if needed at no extra cost to the student.

SAT Math

Having had to prepare for PRAXIS math tests for teacher certification, I am fully aware of the need to prepare for them. By use of lesson plans and follow-up procedures to help the student with technique and strategy in taking the test, I will provide sessions which will enable the student to be successful and confident when taking the test. As a graduate of the US Naval Academy, I believe in a disciplined approach in preparing for an exam.

Patient and understanding

My son was not doing too well in math and needed help fast. I looked on line for local help and found WyzAnt. I picked Mr. Carl and I am very glad I did. My son has pulled up his math grade and doing much better on his quizzes and tests. Mr. Carl takes his time and makes sure the student understands all the math formulas. Thanks Mr. Carl!
