My overriding teaching strategy has been to develop a constructive relationship with my students based on shared clearly understood learning goals. I have also been successful at finding individual strengths and interests to use as a basis for building confidence, motivation and paths to learning in other areas.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught for 36 years, mostly in elementary schools. I have experience in all elementary subject areas and skills. I have a Master's degree in curriculum, with a specialization in technology. I have been successful in helping students expand their enthusiasm for learning by finding their strengths and interests.
I am a single digit handicap and have played golf all my life. I have studied the physical, mental and philosophical aspects of the game. I have been a volunteer for the First Tee program. I teach golf by talking as little as possible while students are swinging most of the time.
I have worked as a district and building technology coordinator for more than 20 years. I have been a tech lead for MLT I (Maine Learning Technology Initiative), which is a one to one student laptop program using MacBooks. I have presented numerous staff workshops on Macintosh functions, software and strategies. I have been a computer lab teacher for several years and have actively used Apple computers in my classroom for decades.
I have taught in public schools for 36 years. During that time I have learned and developed methods that are effective in building solid study skills. I am rated a 4.0 senior player under the USTA. Having played tennis all my life, I have come to understand the basics and the subtleties of the game. My teaching style is to talk and show as little as possible and have the students actively learning most of the time.
Over the past 15 years, I have created and maintained websites for many different businesses using different software / tools. For example, I have created and maintained a golf course website using Dreamweaver. I have also used iWeb for a plumbing company and a dog grooming shop. I used EverWeb for a beauty salon to which I have also linked an active FaceBook page.
For a restaurant client's website I am using Wix. For my own business website I use GoDaddy.
The tools available for web design have become more user friendly so I have been able to guide clients in their efforts to edit their own websites. I have also helped clients choose appropriate DNS and hosting options.
