About Cecilia

I am a college student at Charleston Southern University, majoring in Music Therapy. I love studying, learning, and helping other people.

While I am not a certified teacher, I do have experience working with students of many ages. Through a program called Child Evangelism Fellowship, I have been trained to teach preschool through middle school-age children at summer Bible clubs. I have also worked in a program at my church that involves teaching elementary age children to memorize verses and complete activities.

Finally, I worked with high school freshman through a program at my high school called the Academy Mentor Program. This program involved teaching a weekly class for students about important study skills and school information as well as offering them homework help.

English, writing, grammar, spelling, etc. are subjects that I'd love to help you with. I took A-level English classes all the way through high school and did very well. I have to admit that high school/college level math is not my strongsuit, but I could help with a fair amount of it through at least the elementary school level. If you have any questions or need help in music, that is something I love and have been involved in my whole life. I also have a special place in my heart for homeschoolers, because I myself was homeschooled all the way up until high school.

As you or your child's tutor, I will strive to meet the student's needs, and get to know them in a way that allow me to teach them most effectively. Every person is different, and each student has specific strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. My goal is to find out what those are and use them to help the student succeed.

I have consistently received A's in high level English classes throughout my school years. I have a lot of experience in writing and interpreting literature at a college level, so I will be able to help students with proofreading and preparing to write papers as well as reading comprehension and grammar. As a tutor, I will help students learn to read and write effectively through teaching them grammar, sentence structure, writing styles, essay structure, and anything else the student needs to learn to succeed and thrive in English.

I have quite a bit of experience teaching elementary age students. For five years, I worked with a program called Child Evangelism Fellowship. Through this program I was trained to lead and teach stories, Bible verses, songs, games and learning activities to children's clubs in different neighborhoods. I have also worked with a program at my church called AWANA, in which I worked with students individually to learn Bible verses and complete activities. In tutoring elementary age students, I will make sure to address their needs in learning while also striving make learning exciting and interesting.

I would also love to work with homeschool, and I have much experience with it as I was homeschooled myself through elementary and middle school. I was a very independent learner and studied on my own much of the time, as well as helping my younger sister with her home studies. I understand the uniqueness of homeschooling and how each individual learns in their own, personalized way. I am open to learning about each student's unique learning style and working with them to learn and succeed in the best ways possible.

I studied violin for about 9 years, and I participated in instrumental ensembles such as a high school string ensemble, youth symphony orchestra, and put orchestras for theatre groups. I am currently studying music therapy, which requires knowledge in music theory, conducting, teaching methods, and proficiency in a few instruments. Through my studies, I have learned how to effectively set goals and objectives that ensure success.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

General Music

I studied violin for about 9 years, as well as piano for about 2 years. I was a part of orchestras and music ensembles throughout high school as well as a music theory class. I am currently studying to become a music therapist, so I am taking many music classes such as music theory, piano and voice lessons, music performance, and chorus.

Study Skills

Over the years, I've learned about how important study skills are. I believe that these are an aspect that some students don't get a grasp on for a long time. As a tutor, I will assess each student's individual learning styles and work with them to learn how to manage their time, memorize, and learn in a way that will most benefit them in their classes and for the future.

Violin

I studied violin for about nine years. I was a part of a high school string ensemble, a youth symphony orchestra, and a couple pit orchestras for theater groups.
