I love what I do. And what I've done for 30 years now is bring Green Building to the market through hands-on solutions in Sustainable architecture, planning, interiors, real estate development, and construction. That makes me a perfect tutor for anyone in those fields, studying to be in those fields, or just interested in those fields in general... because every one of those fields will continue to more closely aligned with the ideas of Sustainability, the Environment, and Green Building.
What also makes me a good tutor is being a good communicator, a good listener, a good creative problem solver. In Graduate School I used these skills as a Teaching Assistant at Clemson, teaching Introduction to Architectural Design to incoming freshmen for two years. Later I was a Jury Critic for senior projects at Clemson, and have since taught Combat Readiness Training in the USAF, taught Introduction to Green Building to the Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Academy in North Charleston, and have lectured often about Architecture and Green Building to professional conferences and at the College of Charleston and The Citadel. As a professional, I've designed hundreds of projects in architecture, planning, interiors, and development, and as a builder I've built many of those projects I have designed.
So I understand the academic and conceptual approach, as well as the nuts-and-bolts side of planning, estimating, paying for, and building many different project types... all with a common thread of Sustainability. Some of you may need just a little nudge to get going in the right direction, or a regular check-in to review the progress of a school project, or maybe an intense session or two to prepare for an upcoming exam. I encourage you to reach out to the best possible tutor for you - I hope that's me - and I look forward to helping many of you to learn more about these fascinating and rewarding subjects! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I’ve had a successful career over the last 30 or so years with extensive (and award-winning) experience in residential and commercial and planning projects specializing in Sustainability. I’m looking for an opportunity to use this accumulated knowledge and expertise to make an even bigger difference in our local environment and communities. I have a Bachelor of Science in Design and a Master of Architecture from Clemson University, College of Architecture.
