I am a recent graduate from Union University who has worked as a substitute teacher for the past five years in order to support myself through grad school. I now have two masters degrees, one from Union University in Intercultural Studies, and a second degree in Divinity from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. My education and experience has made me proficient in teaching the humanities (English, History, Geography, Sociology, etc.) and, having grown up in Switzerland, I am also comfortable tutoring both French and German.

I find that my students do best when they are motivated to learn. I begin each tutoring relationship by setting goals with my students and then charting a path on the calendar to help them achieve their goals. This way, my students know what they will be focusing on during each session before they even arrive so that no time is wasted.

My greatest success story as a tutor was taking a 9th grade student from speaking no French to being able to test into French 3 and within six months. I believe that anything worth achieving requires diligence and focus, and I expect my students to continue to work towards their goals in between tutoring sessions.

I see my role as a tutor as someone who can take a large goal (such as a high SAT score) and then break it down into manageable weekly chunks. I help the students track their progress and let them know when they are falling behind by spending a portion of time each session looking over the work they have done that week, reviewing corrected tests and planning for any large projects or tests on the horizon.

The majority of each session will be spent developing solid study habits and helping the students to recognize and use their resources to find the answers they need with the overarching goal that they will eventually be able to teach themselves and succeed without my help. The last portion of each session will be spent assigning homework for the students to do before their next session. This extra practice ensures that my students do not

I also have over 5 years experience successfully applying my research skills in the marketplace while working for Nielsen.

a deep thinker, able to explain complex concepts in ways I could understand

Jeffrey helped me with clarify some "big thinking" about a particular part of my dissertation so that I could write the section. He helped me to pull my head out of the clouds and actually write the section.
