I hold a JD from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University and was a general practitioner for 14 years focusing on litigation. Since retiring from practicing law, I have been actively tutoring law students in all aspects of the law with a heavy emphasis on 1L courses and legal research and writing. I also have extensive experience tutoring upper-level courses as well. Understanding that every student is different, I try to adapt each tutoring session to best complement the learning style of the individual student. No matter the approach, the goal is to do more than just explain the relevant material but ensure that the student fully understands it and can apply it properly when testing. I offer students a free consultation to determine if my services are right for them. I am available 7 days a week and offer flexible scheduling to accommodate busy schedules.
After graduating with my JD from Cumberland, I operated a general practice law firm working mostly in the areas of family law, criminal law, and estate planning. I also had the occasion to work on civil and workers' compensation cases as well. Although my emphasis was in litigation, I have a strong background in legal research and writing and make it a point to assist my students in learning the essential skills of briefing and outlining to better aid their understanding of the area of law they are trying to master. It's not enough to know what the law says, so I challenge students to understand how to apply that law under a particular set of circumstances. With a BA in History from the College of Charleston focusing on American History, I have experience tutoring middle school and high school-level history classes.
