About Debbie

I am a paraprofessional who works at a local high school in South Carolina. I have worked with children ever since 2000. As a rule I worked with elementary and special needs until four years ago and I was placed with a seventh grader, which was a huge transformation for me. The student is a paraplegic and unable to write, so I scribe for him. We are in the eleventh grade, and I get pleasure from every minute of it.
I started tutoring last year, with a ninth grader. Who I worked with in all subjects, but I have preference of algebra. I helped him reach the tenth grade with my tutoring. Without my tutoring he may not have made it. I also am tutoring a ninth grader this year in algebra.

In fact, I take pleasure in math; I always made excellent grades in math when I was a student. I have passed the Praxis mathematics test for teaching in the state of South Carolina in 2012. I have taken Algebra 1, in the ninth grade with my student and Algebra 2 this year.

I took a hand writing course at Western Governors University in 2013, which I have a certificate.

I received a Special Needs & Disabilities Certificate in December 2007 from Piedmont Technical College. In addition I have worked with Special Needs children ever since 2000, which in reality I have enjoyed. My experience with special education is an asset to their learning process.

I am an extremely devoted and caring person who wishes to be of assistance to children and help them be successful in life. So tutoring them is extremely special to me. If I can tutor them and make them successful in life that will make me smile. Hopefully make them smile too. Give me a call I would be glad to help your child.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I worked as substitute teacher at an elementary school in Trenton, South Carolina while my children were in elementary school. I worked almost every day, unless one of my children was sick. After a few years of subbing I was requested by several teachers. I was hired as a permanent paraprofessional in the Special Education Room in January of 2005.

I worked as the 4 year old to twelve year old room teacher at my church’s Parent’s Night Out, From October 2004 until December 2008. I also taught Sunday school during those years.

While getting my public service degree, I did two internships at Merriwether Elementary in North Augusta, SC, and then started subbing there and I was hired permanent in August 2011.

Handwriting

While attending Western Governors University, it was mandatory that I take The Zane-Bloser handwriting course. The course required you to submit manuscript writing as well as cursive writing. I received my certificate from them on February 6th 2013.

Special Needs

I was hired as a paraprofessional in the Special Education Room in January of 2005, at Douglas Elementary.

While getting my public service degree, at Piedmont Technical College, I did two internships at Merriwether Elementary in North Augusta, SC, one was in a resource room and the second one was in a self-contained room. I was hired permanently at Merriwether in August 2011 to shadow a special needs student which was in the fourth grade.

I also received a Certificate in Special Needs & Disabilities from Piedmont Technical College in 2007

I also passed the Praxis Education of Exceptional Students # 0353 in 2010, for the state of South Carolina.
