I am a paraprofessional who works at a local high school in South Carolina. I have worked with children ever since 2000. As a rule I worked with elementary and special needs until four years ago and I was placed with a seventh grader, which was a huge transformation for me. The student is a paraplegic and unable to write, so I scribe for him. We are in the eleventh grade, and I get pleasure from every minute of it.
I started tutoring last year, with a ninth grader. Who I worked with in all subjects, but I have preference of algebra. I helped him reach the tenth grade with my tutoring. Without my tutoring he may not have made it. I also am tutoring a ninth grader this year in algebra.
In fact, I take pleasure in math; I always made excellent grades in math when I was a student. I have passed the Praxis mathematics test for teaching in the state of South Carolina in 2012. I have taken Algebra 1, in the ninth grade with my student and Algebra 2 this year.
I took a hand writing course at Western Governors University in 2013, which I have a certificate.
I received a Special Needs & Disabilities Certificate in December 2007 from Piedmont Technical College. In addition I have worked with Special Needs children ever since 2000, which in reality I have enjoyed. My experience with special education is an asset to their learning process.
I am an extremely devoted and caring person who wishes to be of assistance to children and help them be successful in life. So tutoring them is extremely special to me. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I worked as substitute teacher at an elementary school in Trenton, South Carolina while my children were in elementary school. I worked almost every day, unless one of my children was sick. After a few years of subbing I was requested by several teachers. I was hired as a permanent paraprofessional in the Special Education Room in January of 2005.
I worked as the 4 year old to twelve year old room teacher at my church’s Parent’s Night Out, From October 2004 until December 2008. I also taught Sunday school during those years.
While getting my public service degree, I did two internships at Merriwether Elementary in North Augusta, SC, and then started subbing there and I was hired permanent in August 2011.
While attending Western Governors University, it was mandatory that I take The Zane-Bloser handwriting course. The course required you to submit manuscript writing as well as cursive writing. I received my certificate from them on February 6th 2013.
I was hired as a paraprofessional in the Special Education Room in January of 2005, at Douglas Elementary.
While getting my public service degree, at Piedmont Technical College, I did two internships at Merriwether Elementary in North Augusta, SC, one was in a resource room and the second one was in a self-contained room. I was hired permanently at Merriwether in August 2011 to shadow a special needs student which was in the fourth grade.
