I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring in English. I have specialized in helping Chinese university students prepare for the TOFEL entrance examination, and upon returning to the States, have assisted high school students in the reading/writing/vocab aspects of both SAT and ACT. I help my students to not only know how to correctly understand and respond what is being asked of them on the test, but how to strategically approach the test so as to maximize their time and efforts.
I have a very hands-on approach to my teaching methods and like to incorporate real life situations, so as to help students see the true practicalities of what they are preparing for; not just an examination, but for a skill they will utilize throughout college and into their careers.
I am also an avid reader and writer and have produced short stories, poems and journal articles published in local US newspapers as wells in China. I have a BA degree in Spanish and an MA in Intercultural Studies. I also hold a Chinese language degree from a prominent school in China, as well as a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Thus the very skills I have taught my Chinese university students are the ones necessary for American high schoolers to succeed in the reading/writing aspect of the SAT/ACT.
With over 10 years in the education field, specifically helping both university and high school students with their reading and writing skills (especially essay), I would be grateful to assist your child in their pursuit of high test results on both SAT and the ACT.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
