My dream from childhood was to be a teacher. My life experiences allowed me to achieve my dream of teaching later in life. I was a owner/operator of a family day care prior to earning my teaching degree. My life has been spent caring for children and young adults in all aspects of their development.
As an adult learner, I strived to learn and graduated from both my undergrad and graduate programs with Magma Cum Laude honors. This strive for learning is translated into how I teach. I work very hard to ensure my students not only understand the topic but come away with an interest to learn more. I prefer a mixture of materials to teach a subject and/or lesson. My preferred method of teaching is hands-on, but printed information, Internet research, and teacher/student discussions are also important teaching methods.
My teaching experiences are in the field of special education. I have taught students with disabilities ranging from Autism, ADHD, ED, and LD. The subjects I have taught include, elementary and middle-school level English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Vocation, Social Skills/Independent living, and daily living skills.
I look forward to feedback from my students and parents. Communication between all parties will make the tutoring sessions successful for the student. That is my number one priority-student success.
Helping students to keep to a planned schedule is an important life skill. That said, I do understand that issues do arise. Working with the student and parents to solve scheduling issues would be my first step. I would allow a one time fee free scheduled session that was not cancelled within my 24 hour policy.
I am willing to travel to a students home or local library to conduct the tutoring session.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked as a special education teacher for fifteen years. I have experience working with students diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. I find that hands-on, engaging materials and needed breaks are helpful for students success.
I have been a special education teacher for fifteen years. I have experience with students on the spectrum from Asperger to a young adult who needed 3:1 staffing. One of my greatest joy was working with a young lady who was deemed unable to participate in her community. After my experiences with her she was writing her own name, going to restaurants, parks, and stores.
I am a certified elementary teacher. I have student teaching experience in grade 1. I was a tutor for five years, and worked with students in grades K-8 in all subject areas.
I have been a special education teacher for fifteen years. I have experience helping students earn high school credits, pass Accuplacer exams for post-secondary schools, and supporting students to pass the state driver's license test.
