About Jessica

Previously worked as a special education Pre-K teacher, and interned in special education classes grades k-3. I also Interned at the middle school and high school levels. The look of excitement and joy in a student's eye after they have accomplished something always warmed my heart. To be able to help the student work through their problem and help bring that sparkle to their eye is the very reason I have always wanted to be a teacher.

As a young student I struggled in English due to a learning disability, but I was always interested in writing. As I grew up English became one of my favorite subjects because I enjoyed writing so much. Reading followed shortly after and it wasn't long until I became a bit of a bookworm. My interest for the subject makes it easier for me to make the subject more appealing and interesting to the students I work with. My personal experience with a learning disability also gives me a unique understanding of what it is like to struggle through school and certain subjects. With this perspective I can say that I am a patient, caring, and understanding person. I hope that these qualities will enable me to provide the services that the students I work with require.

Through programs available to me throughout my education I have worked and volunteered as a teacher assistant in grades Pre K- 3rd. Outside of that I have done private tutoring for a High School freshman as he worked through his English course. I also have tutored a student in reading and writing as he prepared for the SATs.

In my experience as a student, teacher aid, and tutor I have learned that every student is unique and will require unique lessons based on their individual abilities. The topics and specific methods used will be determined by the parents/student and what they want to gain from this experience.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
