Ohio State (Mathematics)
Hello! My name is Dave, and I am a retired high school mathematics teacher and middle school principal. I have extensive experience in the teaching profession ranging from the middle school level all the way to teaching college classes. Past teaching experiences have included algebra I and II, geometry, general math, Intro to College Math, and college algebra. I have been tutoring students of all levels for the past five years.
I live in the Surfside Beach area of Myrtle Beach with my wife of 43 years. I have two children; Cheryl who is a 1st grade teacher in California and David, who is in the Air Force currently stationed in England. I also developed and ran a consultation firm focusing on developing curriculum for students to pass the state mandated testing programs with an emphasis on mathematics. My firm presented on the local, state and national levels including the National Middle School Conference in San Antonio, Texas and the State of Ohio Middle School Conference in Cleveland, Ohio. As principal, my school rose from being ranked 19th in our District to 1st, by 19 percentage points, in passage rates on the Ohio Graduation Test. We were recognized by the State of Ohio as the second best school in the State.
I bring with me the educational concepts that we used in the areas of mathematics. Rather than re-teach subject matter, I try to focus on areas the individual student needs support in and work to provide a knowledge base that allows each child to progress in his or her classroom. If the desire to learn is present, there is nothing that can not be achieved! Hello! My name is Dave, and I am a retired high school mathematics teacher and middle school principal. Mr. M. did an excellent job relating to our son. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing help in mathematics.
David was kind and personable. He wasted no time and got right to work helping my boy. After the lesson he gave my wife and I an evaluation and recommendations of things we could do to help him along. After he left, my child stated that he helped him greatly and talked in terms he could understand. The next day I asked him how school was and he replied "great" and seemed excited to do his math homework. About halfway through he told me he was using the techniques David had showed him and it was helping greatly. I couldn't ask for more. All this in ONE HOUR!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught several classes on the college level pertaining to college mathematics and college algebra. I also have an 80 hour mathematics degree with a minor in education.
