Tony came in and helped our son focus. He gave our son a gift: confidence. Our son is still learning and with the tools that Tony provided, our son can have a better future. Thank you Tony.
He was thirty minutes late for a time he picked. He did not bring materials nor tell me to bring them. I knew more math than he did.
I would like to respond to this only negative student comment I have ever received in seven years. First, I made a special sacrifice to work her in on an extremely busy day near the end of the school year. When my other appointments ran over, I kept her updated with texts that I was running late. Second, she brought a friend in the hope of getting two people for the price of one. That is why I think she left the negative comment when she found that was not how it worked. Thirdly, neither she nor her friend brought their ACT or SAT study guide. She should not have to be told to come prepared since her college professors will certainly not tell her that. Please refer to the positive comments students had left during the years.
Tony has helped me in various mathematical departments. He has always shown a great deal of excitement in his work and truly entices you into the work you do as well. If there is something he may not know, he is sure to look it up and have an answer for you by next meeting. Tony is smart but is also a real nice gentleman. He is flexible with where to meet and what time. As a college student, it is a big deal. Thanks Tony!
Tony was a great help to me. I'm going back to college after many years, and he was very patient. If I didn't "get it" one way, he would show me a different way that I could understand better. Very helpful!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a master's degree in School Counseling awarded in August 1998 from Marshall University in Huntington/South Charleston, WV. The curriculum dealt with the spectrum of special education issues including IEP's, special needs, and ADD/ADHD. I also have over twenty years experience in the field as a classroom teacher, homebound instructor, and substitute teacher.
I was certified to teach math in West Virginia twenty-nine years ago after completing my alternate certification studies at Concord College, now Concord University. I have been tutoring algebra 2 successfully since February 2008. I have also been substitute teaching algebra two and other math courses at Socastee High School near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina since September 2011. I also homebounded algebra 2 and other subjects for eight years prior to that in West Virginia and Virginia.
I am a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, former member of the North Myrtle Beach Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla, and have been a substitute Instructor for the Socastee High School AF JROTC for the past four and a half years. I also spent a year and a half in college Army ROTC at Wake Forest University. (Continued). The reference below was from a former ASVAB student's father. I must have been previously approved to do ASVAB since I did it for WyzAnt in 2013.
I have excellent verbal and written English skills, as well as extensive teaching experience with non-native English speaking students over the last twenty-five years. I very much enjoy working with students from other cultures.
I am a 20-plus year veteran teacher and tutor who has passed Praxis himself. I was a certified math teacher in WV, VA, and SC; I have taught across almost all curriculum and grade levels as a home-bound teacher. I would be very comfortable tutoring for Praxis preparation.
