I am a retired teacher of Spanish and English as a Second Language, having taught every level from PK - adult. I have always enjoyed the interaction between student and teacher, and treat my students with respect and consideration for whatever phase in life they are experiencing. My lessons incorporate creative activities, such as music, art, reading, puppetry. Acquisition of a second language should be done in as natural a way as possible, with visuals, conversation and repetition.
I began to study Spanish in the ninth grade and enjoyed it immensely. The Hispanic culture, music, literature, art, history and people fascinate me. As a young adult, I spent one summer studying at La Universidad de las Americas, Mexico City, Mexico and a few weeks on vacation in Spain. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught ESL from Pre-K through Adult. My Master's Degree is in multi-cultural education, indicative of the fact that I am very interested in learning about and assisting individuals of various backgrounds. I feel that hands-on activities and music are excellent ways of improving memory and making the educational experience more enjoyable.
I welcome small groups interested in learning English.
I have been studying and speaking Spanish for 50 years. Before starting college, I took a summer Spanish class at Rutgers to accelerate my entrance level when I started college in the fall.
I spent time in Mexico, studying at La Universidad de las Americas and have visited Spain. Panama, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. My teaching experiences include all levels from PK - college and adult schools. I have tutored many students mostly on high school levels, as well as adults who wanted to improve their Spanish.
