Thomas Edison State College (Communications)
Hi there! My name's Geno, and at the time of this entry, I have been operating my own video production business, Block One Studios, for over four years. Through my business and personal filmmaking endeavors, I have headed up and been a part of a wide variety of projects. These projects include feature films, short films, promotional videos, documentaries, commercials, weddings, events, real estate videos, TV shows, and more. I know the video production/filmmaking process, from idea conception all the way through to final delivery of a finished product. Besides my years of experience, I also have a bachelor of arts in communications from Thomas Edison State College.
I love stories. I think they are some of the most important things in our culture and history. And whether they recognize it or not, almost everyone else loves stories too. That's why they read books, go to the movies, recount their crazy experience at the gas station, tell a consumer about their product - they want to share an experience with someone else.
If you're looking into video and film production, odds are you like stories just like I do. And that's my main goal in tutoring: to give you the knowledge necessary to tell stories, whether they be your own or those of potential clients. I can teach you how to write scripts, operate a camera, and edit what you've shot. Beyond that, I can teach you specifics about these processes, including (but not limited to!) lighting and composition, camera technology and operation, and editing systems. I'm also happy to talk about my own experiences and what I've learned operating my business over the years. When I first got into video, I didn't even know how to connect my camera to my computer, and I felt incredibly lost as I tried to get a grasp on things. I want you to be able to avoid that by sharing what I know with you. So even if you have no knowledge about this stuff, don't worry! It can be learned and you can have fun while learning it.
There's a lot that goes into video and film production. But it's a great skill - even a necessary one in today's technological age. It's also quite a bit of fun. Whether you're creatively-minded, business-minded, or of any other mind, there's something in video and film production for you. I'd love to help you on your path toward telling great stories with integrity, professionalism, and the utmost quality. Hi there! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have owned my own video production company, Block One Studios LLC, in the Charleston, SC area for over 4 years. Because of this, I have worked on a wide variety of projects and know the video production process from start to finish.
My video production clients have included the local EMS, U.S. Courts Office of Public Affairs, realtors, churches, non-profit organizations, lawyers, business owners, and more.
Besides my work for clients, I am also a filmmaker who has made numerous short films, several of which have competed in film festivals.
You can see examples of my film and video work at: www.vimeo.com/blockonestudios.
On top of my experience, I also have a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Thomas Edison State College, where I graduated with honors.
I believe that video production and filmmaking are great skills in today's technological age. I was lost when I first started to learn, and wish to help others find their way more quickly than I did while enjoying the learning process. Video production is hard, but it is also rewarding and fun.
