Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

As a certified teacher, I taught Common Core and used the standardized test as a basis for teaching. Also we were required to know the standards required for Common Core based on the curriculum of the school district. This type of teaching helps students transfer easily from one school to another.

Dyslexia

I have training for Wilson Reading Program and Lindmood Bell program. Both of these are designed to help dyslexic children in reading. I have tutoring some children with mild dyslexia.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a degree in Elementary Education. I have taught for 23 years in the public school system and am now retired. I have tutored extensively in all subjects in Elementary Education.

Handwriting

I have taught and tutored manuscript and cursive in grades 1, 2 and 3. In teaching manuscript I have taught the Manuscript method and the D'Nealian method. While teaching cursive I worked with 2nd and 3rd graders. I also have trading and experience teaching composition and writing skills in creative writing.

Homeschool

I have a degree in elementary education and have tutored home school students. I had one student I taught all subjects to in his home for nine hours a weeks. Another student that I helped was participation in the Connections Academy program and I helped him with Language Arts and Algebra.

Phonics

Phonics is the basis for learning to read! One program I used was "The Letter People" which was a creative way of teaching letter recognition and sounds.

Reading

I taught reading to first, second and third graders for 23 years. I had training when I studied for my degree in Elementary Education. I also have trained in recent years on the Wilson Reading program and Lindamood-Bell reading program. I have also tutored for years in the field of reading.

Social Studies

I taught Social Studies in grades 1-3 for 23 years. The publishers of McGraw Hill and Houghton Mifflin.are two books I taught. Supplemental materials from Ginn were also used in my teaching. As part of my trading I took classes in the teaching of Social Studies.

TOEFL

I have a certification in ESOL from Kennesaw State University. I have used this training with many students. It has also been helpful in working with my students in other areas.

Vocabulary

I taught Spelling in public schools for 23 years and also in my tutoring experience. I have trading from my degree in Elementary Education and staff development classes.
