Oakwood University, Huntsville, AL (English)
First things first, I am a multi-disciplinary artist and a constant forager of inspiration. I graduated with an English degree, in addition, to at least 30+ credit hours in Education courses. Thus, I know my way around teaching styles or simply, I can meet your needs. I currently have only taught as an Instructional Aide for special education students and students-at-risk; but, I have experience tutoring former classmates in literature, english, grammar, and PRAXIS II prep. If i have learned anything thus far from those experiences is that you have to meet each person in their own space and time. Adaptability is key to opening the doors of learning.
It should also be noted that I have an abundance of knowledge concerning public speaking. As a performer and presenter of my work, I am constantly engaging audiences or small groups. My steps into poetry and prose also make me an adept seer in writing skills and preparation. I am more than happy to assist in the needs of students, young and old alike. The best part about tutoring lies in the connection of one's mind to the opening of one's life. Learning, truly is the gateway to self-understanding and I am all about...understanding :)
p.s. If you need any help navigating African-American or Black studies, I'm most definitely your guy.
I'm the English tutor that sees everything as literature. Each segment, concept, branch of English is a larger piece to the story of English. I see the necessity of Grammar and how it opens the door to understanding writing. I see the writing as a way to exercise one's inner voice. That Inner voice can then be channeled in to reading, public speaking, and speech. This then discovered voice can return to it's medium of English and explore the different branches with ease and intelligence. Not only allowing the learner to appreciate English, but it creates confidence and joy in understanding one's self. It's all a circle of self-love really.
Though I may seem a little ostentatious in character, I'm very down to Earth and available. Have any questions? Contact me. My schedule is currently open and I would love to start helping learners to learn about themselves and their work. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
