About Emily

I've been a Chemist for 15 years. In Graduate school I taught Organic Chemistry and General Chemistry. Also since Graduate School I have tutored Part-time. I took some time off when I had two of my children and a family member got sick. Even though I worked as a Chemist the most my job also entailed teaching others. I taught Deputies how to properly collect evidence, explained the science behind the experiments to attorneys and jury members, and explained the science on a regular basis to members of my command staff.

During my own personal education I had the blessing of being taught by teachers who weren't very good and teachers and family that were gifted at teaching. During Graduate school it was my mission to figure out the best methods to teach not only myself but also my students. It was the one skill that I knew I wanted to master so that others could experience the joy I did when I came across an awesome teacher. For the last few years while I stopped tutoring as much I also began teaching the most important students in my life, my children. They each, just like each of my former students, have their own learning style and it's been a joy learning the best way to reach them and excite their inner drive to learn. I would love to work with your child or yourself to help you learn the best way to learn the material you need help with.

To become as proficient with Chemistry as I am I had to understand completely many math subjects. These are the subjects that I had to use on a regular basis to fulfill the job requirements of my job. Also in the Chemistry courses I taught at USC Algebra, Geometry, and some Statistics had to be taught.

I was an Organic Chemistry graduate student at USC. My GPA in Graduate school was 3.6 in Organic Chemistry graduate courses. I also received the Bouknight Teaching award in Graduate school for the courses I taught to Undergraduate Students.

I would love to work with you or your student to inspire and direct you towards the art of Math and Science. It can be intimidating if the proper instruction and examples aren't given and it would be my pleasure to help guide you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Organic Chemistry

I graduated from USC with a Bachelor's in Chemistry. I then entered Graduate school with a focus on Organic Chemistry. My GPA was 3.6 in Graduate school in courses such as Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry of Metabolism, Physical Organic Chemistry, etc. In Graduate school I also taught Organic Chemistry I and II and the labs associated with those courses. I was also a research assistant for 4 years in Polymer Organic Chemistry lab under Dr. Scrivens.

Prealgebra

I have a Master's in Organic Chemistry which I couldn't have obtained without mastering many math topics such as Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus. Anyone can succeed at Math if just takes determination, confidence, and study time. I have tricks that help with confidence and besides helping with homework I'll help set up a study plan for work at home.
