I have a background that spans 33 years in the healthcare profession, doing a variety of things. I taught a Medical Assisting program that included all the student's training, from academic to clinical. I also taught Microbiology to the Surgical Tech students. I loved teaching! I also am gifted verbally and linguistically and these are sideline passions. My degree is in psychology. I am currently writing a book. I am certified to tutor almost all the Language Arts related subjects to include SAT and ACT Reading and Writing. I love to write. I enjoy equally working with children and adults. It is so essential for a child's future educational success to see reading as fun and not a chore!

She taught me about syllables, and I had a kind of English level test. It was good. I am expecting to study with her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am certified to tutor in many areas of English, from ACT English to ESL and have recently finished an intensive 3 month ESL tutoring job. I am certified to tutor SAT Reading and SAT Writing. I would enjoy working with a young person and helping them develop their reading skills. It's essential for them to see reading as fun, and not a challenge since it is their gateway to knowledge. I have experience teaching.
Since I am certified in grammar, proofreading, public speaking, reading, spelling and vocabulary, I feel I could be a great help to a student learning English as a second language. I am extremely articulate and have a very good command of the English language. When I taught Medical Assisting, medical terminology, which is similar to learning a second language, came very easily to me. I needed no lesson plans.
I am linguistically gifted, and proper grammar is extremely important to me. I grew up in Wisconsin, so I speak without an accent. Proper grammar is so important in so many aspects of life.
I taught Microbiology for a Surgical Tech program. This was one of those "for profit" career colleges and they were using a new text that quarter. It had been chosen at the corporate level and I was presented with a university level textbook with no syllabus. I had to be capable of writing 4 hrs. of lecture material weekly and I had to be able to make it appropriate microbiology knowledge necessary for their particular field. I also wrote all my own quizzes/exams. I actually still have some quizzes and exams in my documents. Anyone is welcome to look at them. They also expected these students to take microbiology without ever seeing or handling a microscope. I made special arrangements for my students to go to the Medical Assisting Clinical Area and spend a couple of days learning the parts of a microscope, how to look at a slide or do an oil immersion slide. And know WHO invented the microscope. In my opinion, these are essential parts of even a basic microbiology class.
With over 30 yrs in the health care field, I have worked in diverse settings to include dermatology, OB/GYN, internal medicine, and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. This has given me knowledge of pharmacology that is extensive. It holds personal interest for me and so I've made a point of being knowledgeable about this subject. I'm one of a few that can read a PDR and know what they are reading. I am well versed in antibiotics, NSAID's, psychotropics, hormones, antihypertensives and more.
My bachelor's degree is in Psychology. Human behavior is my sideline passion. This would be a fun subject for me to tutor.
As a healthcare instructor, I lectured to 22 adult students. While teaching, I had great student reviews. I am articulate and linguistically gifted and public speaking comes easy to me. I know how to hold people's attention.
I have been swimming since I was 5 years old. As a teenager, I swam on the HS swim team and became WSI certified by the time I graduated. In the late 80's, I taught Swimming lessons at a local daycare facility that had an outdoor pool. The age range was about 3-12 and they were all beginner's for the most part.
Writing has always been a "sideline" passion of mine. I express myself better through composition than I do verbally, and I'm pretty articulate. I am currently writing a book and I am certified to tutor MANY English and Language Arts subjects along with all my medically related subjects. Linguistics fascinates me and I just love to write.
