About Danielle

I have extensive experience tutoring individuals of all genders, ethnic backgrounds, interests and educational levels and from 1st grade through Ph.D. candidacy. I tutor in a public library or Starbucks setting.

In general, I enjoy working with students who possess a strong desire to learn. This allows me to work successfully tutoring for remediation and for students who seek assistance with advanced subject material or advanced degree test preparation. That in itself energizes me, and fuels my own ability to teach.

Essentially to me, the most important role I believe I play is presenting material to the student in a way in which they understand it. Tutoring is of no value if the teacher teaches but the student is not learning. A true meeting of the minds must take place. Particularly since all individuals learn best through different mechanisms, such as verbal cues, visual cues, a combination of the two or other, it is my job to first discern this and work from that perspective.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I am a minister, have hosted two years of radio shows regarding scripture and have written several published books on the subject, including Bible Study.

Elementary (K-6th)

I tutored extensively last year with several different companies, working primarily with children in the K-6 range - one was a 7th grade student. The two primary subjects were reading and math. In two months I took a young child who never learned his alphabet in K to be able to read his children's bible (his father bought him this once he was able to read). Similarly in three months I took a 3rd grade hearing disabled child who didn't know his numbers 0 - 10, use of a number line, etc. to adding and subtracting 4 digit numbers, learned his places through the hundred thousands and was able to multiply up to three digit numbers. I was able to convert fractions to like denominations properly and add and subtract like and different fractions as well as starting multiplication with simple fractions. We were just getting into division when tutoring ended for the year.

ESL/ESOL

I have worked with several students on not quite learning, more like refining the learning they did as a youngster taking classes in English in Africa, for example. Now as an adult, he was using it in business and needed a refresher both in speaking and writing. We went through several months of classes last year. I currently have a student who is working in the US from Brazil. He wants to "reduce his accent" so that he can speak properly for business purposes and at the same time increase his vocabulary without having to form his conceptual definition from context, but without being treated like he's learning vocabulary words as a second grader.

Nutrition

I am a certified nutritionist (certified in 1998) and doctor of natural health (ND received in 2002).
