I have taken students who were failing in all types of math and science and got them up to "A" grades. I have been told that I have the ability to explain the most abstract math and science principles in simple everyday terms (even for calculus and precalculus). I have a Master's degree in astrophysics with High Distinction and am also the recipient of the University Medal "for outstanding academic achievement."

Helping students attain their full potential through my tutoring is a great source of personal satisfaction for me. I look forward to hearing from you. Rick is an excellent tutor. He started with my daughter around the end of January and her average in Alegebra 3 was a 69. He has met with my daughter twice a week for an hour since then and she currently has a 96 average!!! Omg, she has not had a grade like this all year long. She has gone from flunking test to making A's. Her lowest test grade since starting with Rick has been an 85, and that was just right after her 1st lessons. Her last 2 test were a 94 and 95 which her teacher said was one of the highest in the class. This gentleman certainly knows how to turn a failing student around and even more so my daughter is ADHD and he has worked wonderfully with her. IF YOU NEED HELP IN MATH, THIS IS THE PERFECT TUTOR!
My daughter is being tutored by Rick and has been for the last two months. She was struggling with Algebra I. We are so happy to have found Rick. He has helped my daughter gain confidence in what she knows. He is patient and explains concepts so she understands. Her grades are steadily improving. We highly recommend him as a tutor! Thanks, Rick!!
I returned to school for a degree in Mechanical Engineering and I was a bit rusty. Rick helped me with college algebra, trigonometry, and per-calculus, as well as physics and statics. I graduated in May with honors and a 3.6 GPA. Rick was an invaluable resource for me and is a great guy to work with. Highly recommended, five stars plus!
After just one hour with my son, Rick showed him how to solve problems in a way that my son now understands! My initial impression is WOW! For the first time, my son did not ask for help while practicing last night. Thank you Rick!
Rick is very patient and great at explaining what for me is very difficult to understand. After two lessons I feel like he has already helped me to get at least 5 more questions right, which before I had no clue how to solve.
We found out about Rick thru a friend of mine who talked about how in a couple of weeks he was able to help her son bring his grades up from f's to a's and b's on his tests. Our son has some learning challenges that have caused him to go from understanding math one day to the next being completely confused by problems that he just did the day before. Rick immediately was able to figure out the way our son learned. He always spoke in an upbeat encouraging way during the lesson. The real "proof in the pudding" was the week following his very first tutoring session. When I would ask my son if he knew how to do it his reply was always-"remember my tutor showed me how to do that and he even wrote it in my book for me". It even got him to be motivated to ask some people at school for help this week-something he wouldn't do before. He's 15 and for the first time since he started school he seems motivated to do his math! Rick is a real answer to our prayers!
Rick has been working with our son (who is taking geometry in the 8th grade) and is making wonderful progress. Our son was very frustrated trying to keep up in class and was afraid to tell us how bad he was struggling. Rick has had about 5 sessions with him and he is doing great now. I can just see his self confidence increasing and he made a 103 on his last exam. Thanks for all that you have done, Rick. I would recommend him to anyone.
Rick was very enthusiastic about what he was teaching and related well to my son. I am very confident that he will be a great asset.
April 17, 2012 was my son's last session with Rick before his big exam. Rick did a fantastic job of explaining concepts and reviewing weak skills. I may need him again next year!
My son's grades have already improved dramatically with Rick's help. He made a 100 and a 98 on his last two quizzes. Rick is awesome!!!!
I highly recommend Rick to all students struggling with math from rudimentary math through college level courses. He has a gift for identifying why a student may be stuck on a problem. He is able to explain a math problem from many angles which tends to bring about that "aha" moment of understanding.
Patience is also one of Rick's great qualities because patience seems to instill the confidence that you, as the student, will become competent in math because Rick will make sure that you do. Yes! Rick's confidence in my future success as his tutored student in math, gives me hope and the desire to keep-on-keeping on!
As my daughter works with Rick, she continues to be happy with the way he explains complex concepts and allows her to work through problems in a manner that conveys knowledge and improves her confidence. She looks forward to her weekly sessions and Rick has helped her retain her love for math which was starting to falter with her current Algebra II teacher. We feel very fortunate to have found a tutor who not only knows the material, but can teach it to students effectively.
My son is a college student who has struggled repeatedly to achieve what was necessary to be successful with College Algebra. Rick worked diligently and patiently with him, he completely turned our son from "I don't know anything about Math" to "I can do this!" I strongly recommend this excellent tutor to any student needing help in Math!
I would like to express my sincere thanks to Rick for all the help he has given my son. He is great to work with and my son feels very comfortable with him. He has helped my son grasp pre-calc concepts. Rick is very dependable and a great tutor. I would highly recommend him!
My son was failing Geometry; every assignment, quiz, and exam was F’s and only a few D’s. Rick tutored for 4.5 hours and recognized immediately his shortcomings. Following his tutoring, Drake was able to grasp the concept, and he never scored below a 96 after the tutoring. I only wish I had found WyzAnt and Rick earlier in the school year.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My background as a research scientist and experience as an engineer along with my ability to explain advanced concepts in simple language can get students over major stumbling blocks when tackling the Science portion of the ACT. Use of sample ACT tests also is a big help.
For many years I have helped both high school and college students (even some with ADHD, dyslexia, etc) become exceptional students in Algebra 2. Indeed, many have gone from failure to the honor roll or dean's list under my tutelage. I am one of WyzAnt's longest standing tutors in Algebra 2 and in other types of math.
Geometry requires a different type of thinking than algebra does, and many students who excelled in algebra meet difficulty when they get to geometry. I have helped many students successfully make the transition over the years.
Do I know physics? Well, I have a Master's degree in astrophysics with high distinction and the award of the University Medal. But more importantly, I have the ability to explain complex scientific ideas in an easily understandable way.
