Fredonia State College of New York (Accounting)
Bob Jones University - Greenville, SC (Master's)
I have a background in Accounting as well as teaching. I am certified to teach Elementary, Middle, and High School special education in any setting (Inclusion, Resource, and Self Contained). I have experience in all settings and grades. I have a Master's in Multicategorical Special Education. My last teaching position was as a special education teacher in a self contained classroom, working with children with Autism, Intellectual Disabilities, and Behavioral Disorders. I all have 2 years of tutoring experience. I tutored students in reading, math, social studies, science, note taking, and time management.
I love teaching. My favorite subjects to teach are math, English, social studies, science, and study skills. My favorite thing about teaching and tutoring is the sheer joy that comes through a student's eyes when they understand, and realize what they are capable of.
I understand how to teach children with learning disabilities. I also understand Common Core principles. Children learn in different ways. I know how to differentiate instruction in order to reach every student.
Success in Biology comes from good note taking and developing an understanding systems. I love Biology and have a way of making it fun for students.
I love reading and writing. I enjoy tutoring these subjects because I love when children develop a love of literature and communicating through the written word.
I have been a Toastmaster for 2 years. I enjoy Public Speaking.
I was a naturally gifted student in elementary, middle, and high school. I didn't have to truly work on developing good study skills until my college years. I have learned many things about the importance of good time management, note taking, and how to develop them that I love to pass on to others. I have helped many students in our Church Youth Group to improve their grades with the study skills techniques that I use.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a certified special educator. I have worked with students who were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. I understand how to "chunk" problems and use tactile stimulation in order to keep these students on task. Children who have Attention Deficit Disorders require someone with patience and vision to work with them. I possess both of these attributes.
I have worked with students with Autism for at least 5 years, both in the classroom and through tutoring. My administrators would always trust me with the most behaviorally challenging students, because I enjoy shaping behavior with ABA Therapy and TEACCH Program techniques. I enjoy working with students with Autism because it requires problem solving, patience, and compassion. Parents with children who are diagnosed with Autism, need compassionate teachers who are willing to work with them and share knowledge about what methods work best with their children. It all comes down to communication and documentation.
I tutored a student with Dyslexia who attended the Camperdown Academy from 2006-2007. I enjoyed using Multi-sensory methods with this student. The best results were achieved with this student when I used Orton-Gillingham based approaches.
I worked with a tutoring agency in Greenville, SC from 2007-2009. One of the programs that I used was called Sing, Spell, Read, and Write. I taught children in elementary, middle school, and high school, phonics. I also worked with a young man, 25 years old, who realized that he truly could not read. He had fallen through the cracks while in the Special Education system in school. He realized that he had managed to get by for years through rote memorization of words (sight words), but never learned the mechanics of sounding out words through the use of phonics.
I am the current VP of Education for the Greenville Toastmasters Club 964. I have been a member for 2 years. I was the keynote speaker at the Sigsby Church of Christ Ladies Day and the Ridgeland Church of Christ Ladies Day Programs in 2015. I have held leadership positions with Toastmasters for 2 years. I teach Women's Bible Classes, Sunday School, and have taught in the Greenville County School System for almost 7 years. I have delivered various professional presentations at Bob Jones University, Washington Center, and as a Senior Tax Accountant for Sodexho Marriott, the Internal Revenue Service, and Sorrento Food Service in my past accounting career.
I am qualified to teach study skills because I have a background in Multicategorical Special Education. Providing support and techniques to students who have a difficult time comprehending and retaining information is a part of my skill set. I desire to help students to realize their educational potential by improving their study skills with simple lifestyle and note taking changes. In the past, I have used a proven system of note taking and test preparation methods to help students of different ages, grades, and capabilities, improve their educational performance.
