The University of South Carolina Upstate (English)
A recent graduate of The University of South Carolina-Upstate, I now work in the automotive industry for the Upstate of South Carolina. In my position, I have successfully demonstrated both verbal and written skills along with strengthening my understanding of the German language.
In my free time, I enjoy reading foreign literature, American modernist short stories, adolescent novels, and occasionally, a graphic novel or two. Some of my favorite authors include F.Scott Fitzgerald, Toni Morrison, J.K. Rowling, Marjane Satrapi, J.D. Salinger, and Zora Neale Hurston. During my international travels (China, Thailand, Ukraine, India, Germany), I have been presented with the opportunity to teach English to both elementary and high school students. I look forward to continuing my education within the next five years, working towards Master's degree in English Education.
I am obsessed with words--especially any word that ends with "ious". I am currently practicing several languages including German, Ukrainian, Russian, Spanish, and Sign Language. A girl can dream to be quad-lingual, right? I swear by a good ink pen while I'm writing and editing; a Pilot Precise V7 rolling ball, to be exact.
*I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in International Relations.
*I served as both a contributing writer and section editor for USC-Upstate's student-led newspaper, The Carolinian,
*I interned as an editor under the supervision of Dr. Thomas McConnell, professor of English at The University of South Carolina.
*I published a creative non-fiction piece in this year's publication of "Writer's Inc."
*I interned with the English Language Institute at The University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
I am excited to integrate fun, relative, and progressive learning techniques to help students love English language and arts. I look forward to serving alongside students, parents, and educators, fostering a safe and positive learning environment.
I am available Monday-Thursday: after 4:00pm, Friday: after 2:00pm, Saturday and Sunday: after 1:00pm. If you have any questions or further inquiries, do not hesitate to contact me! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a proclivity for words and thoroughly enjoy teaching words to others. I challenge myself to use new words every chance I get and to become familiar with how they are used. The dictionary and thesaurus have become my closest friends as an adult.
