James Madison University (Biology)
Rutger's University (Master's)
My love of teaching began when I started working as a Naturalist for the Monmouth County Park System in NJ after graduating with a B.S. in Biology at James Madison University. I started teaching Environmental Education classes for the parks while getting my Master's degree at Rutgers University in Ecology/Entomology. Besides teaching various subjects in science, I also taught classes in natural history and basic art and photography. At Rutgers, I was a teaching assistant in the Ecology department and while earning my Master's, I also completed their Science Teacher Certification program and received certification for Middle School Science and High School Biology.
I have always loved talking about and explaining science and art/photography and sharing my love of the natural world with others. I have worked with pre-school through adult students. I worked for the MCPS for many years until moving to Bethlehem. Since then I have been lucky to be able to cyber-school my children and help them with their studies. While raising my children, I received Professional Photographer Certification from the New York Institute of Photography and have been running my own portrait and nature photography business.
I was an excellent math student throughout my schooling and I have worked with my three children throughout Elementary and Middle School. I can help with basic math through pre-Algebra.
My background in Science (B.S. in Biology and M.S. in Ecology/Entomology, summa cum laude), as well as my Teacher Certification (Middle School Science and High School Biology), makes me highly qualified to tutor various subjects in science.
I received a Professional Photographer Certification from NYIP and have run my own photography business for 10 years. I am proficient in the use of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, as well as other photo editing software and Wordpress.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
There are numerous reasons why I believe I am considered to be highly qualified as a photography tutor. To start, I have taken many photography courses over the years, including Black & White Photography I & II, and Color Photography and have also completed the New York Institute of Photography certification program. I have been involved in many aspects of photography throughout my life, including being a part of yearbook staffs, teaching art and photography classes, and running my own Portrait and Nature Photography business for the past 10 years here in PA. I am also a member of the Hillcrest Camera Club where I have received numerous photography awards and have been asked to be a judge at their monthly and end of the year competitions.
