College of Charleston (Biology)
I am a graduate in Biology from College of Charleston, but my love for learning extends across many subjects and disciplines. I minored in Studio Art, and took many classes in subjects such as Anthropology, History and Literature. I moved to Spain after graduating college, where I taught English as a second language professionally for two years. During those two years I also was able to achieve fluency in the Spanish language. I have a passion for international travel and art.
I am a detail-oriented, organized, and hard-working individual. I am also fun and flexible with my students, in the hopes of making my tutoring classes enjoyable as well as informative. I have found that through tutoring I meet new people from different backgrounds, which is something I value. I enjoy seeing my students succeed and realize their potential. I know from my own experience that education opens doors and gives you unparalleled opportunities. I hope to impart to my students enthusiasm for the subject that I teach and a general love of learning.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology, and graduated top of my class with both an Outstanding Student Award and Departmental Honors. A high G.P.A. of 3.85 is an indication of my capabilities and understanding of the subject. I am also familiar with the scientific method and research skills, having conducted independent research and published a scientific paper.
I have two years of teaching experience in Spain. I taught English classes in a public school to ages 12-17. During those two years I also gave private tutoring classes to all ages, including preschool to adult professionals.
After living in Spain for almost three years with Spanish roommates, I am fluent in Spanish. I know various techniques that aid in language acquisition, and know up-to-date vocabulary and expressions. Given my professional background teaching English as a second language, I can apply similar techniques to teaching Spanish as a second language.
I am able to travel as well as hold tutoring sessions in my own home. I am flexible with hours and am willing to be flexible with teaching methods depending on the wishes of the student or parent. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
