Hello. My name is Kasondra. I have been teaching for 7 years. My husband and I have two amazing children. I currently teach K5 at a title 1 charter school, but I'm very passionate about 2nd grade. I recently obtained my master's in reading education. I was awarded the "Distinguished Teacher of Reading" for 2016. I love to learn. I believe that each child should be taught based on their individual needs and instruction should be differentiated in order to achieve success. I use many different methods to help children phonetically. I have used Saxon phonics for 5 years and have shown much success. I believe a healthy balance of phonics instruction and whole language instruction should be used.
I love free writing. Writing without criticism or objectives allows children to show off their phonics skills in a relaxed way. This allows the children to practice spelling while being creative.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
