Furman University (Psychology)
I've tutored elementary students on general subjects and college students in psychology. I've also collaborated with others on sewing projects and assisted friends, family, and classmates on their sewing projects. I really enjoy being able to understand what the student doesn't comprehend about the subject and finding new ways to bridge that gap and lead to understanding.
I recently graduated with BA in psychology from Furman University. I graduated with honors and a 3.77 GPA. During my education, I was a teaching assistant for a psychology research methods and statistics class, and I've undertaken many research projects.
I have several years of sewing experience, have constructed personal garments and costumes, and have had classes on costume design and construction. I work with commercial patterns and draft my own patterns.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I learned to sew six years ago from my mother, herself an experienced seamstress. Since then, I have created personal garments and costumes from both commercial and hand-drafted patterns, and assisted others in creating their own. I have also taken classes on costume design and construction, and assisted classmates in these classes. While reading about sewing can be helpful, it is most easily understood by modeling other's technique through trial and error, and it is this hands-on experience that I would like to provide to students.
