Hello! My name is Shannon. I am currently working at Duncan Chapel after a year teaching in California. I previously taught special education for three years at Duncan Chapel prior to California. I love being outdoors, watching football (ACC and NFL) and spending time with my family! I have tutored students in the past after school and during lunch/recess hours. I understand the frustrations of not understanding what is being taught in the classroom and I love working with students during this process. I love tutoring because to see a student that has been struggling understand a concept because you presented it in a different way is very rewarding. Students learn in MANY different ways and I enjoy creating a unique learning experience!
I am currently certified in Early Childhood, Special Education and Elementary Education, highly qualified. I have worked as a Special Ed teacher in Greenville county for three years. I taught one year in California in a mixed grade classroom with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. I have worked with various teachers in kindergarten-fifth grade in an inclusion program and I am familiar with the curriculum. As a special education teacher I have worked with students on study skills before, during and after school to increase student achievement.
Please contact me regarding your needs in a tutor, I have a wide range of skill sets at the elementary level and I have experience teaching concepts in unique ways for students that struggle with the curriculum as it is taught in the classroom. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
