Hello Math Students,

If you or your kids need help with math for the standardized admissions tests like the GRE, GMAT, and SAT, or math, statistics or economics courses, or school admissions tests, Regents and state exams, I can help you understand what you need to.

What these tests, and math in general, do is test your thinking process--your ability to think and reason logically. So you have to understand what you're doing and why, and if you do you can apply that to any problem on the test. I'll work with you to make sure the math clicks with you, and keep helping you with it until it does. In my experience people who've had trouble with math often have had teachers who weren't good at explaining how to do math, or went too fast; we'll go through problems step-by-step to make sure you understand each step and why you're doing it.

Of course, like anything, you can't improve without time and practice--the homework and repetition of what we're learning is indispensable for you to assimilate what you're learning well enough to do it confidently on the test. And once the problems start to click, they actually become fun. Like puzzles. Really.

I have a B.A. from Tufts University in economics and got an 800 on the SAT math section and several diagnostic tests for the GRE and GMAT that I've taken for the test-prep classes I taught. I've taught privately for several years, and before that taught test-prep classes at Baruch college for Cambridge Educational Services, in addition to tutoring students in algebra and geometry at Harlem Village Academy, one of the top charter schools in the city.
