I am an online educator with a passion for tutoring students in a one-on-one learning environment. I believe strongly that additional academic support is critical in giving students the opportunities to succeed not only in school, but in their eventual careers as well. I have over six years of classroom teaching experience with the ability to instruct students from the elementary to high school level in multiple subject areas (U.S./World History, U.S. Government/Economics, English Language Arts, Algebra, and French). I also have experience with writing development and proofreading essays. I have also received my South Carolina Professional teaching license.
My aim as a tutor is two-fold. First, I want to support students with their current assignments (homework, test/quiz prep). During our sessions, I will help students stay organized and implement review material from past lessons that we covered. Just as important to supporting them with their coursework is to help them build long-term study skills that they will be able to use down the road. I want to ensure that your student gains confidence in their ability to learn. I focus on making each tutoring session productive, but I also want to make sure that your student is comfortable while making the topics we are going over interesting and relevant. I look forward to an opportunity to tutor you or your child.

Matthew has been helping my son with 3rd grade math. In only three sessions we have already seen improvement with his understanding and test scores. He is very patient and puts things in perspective on a level my son can easily comprehend. Matthew also uses math problems in relativity to my sons interests.
He gave me a better understanding on the concepts of the ciriculum. And he broke it down to the simplest understanding of the math he is very helpful with the math
Very impressed with what he was able to cover in just the first session. My twins really did find him very helpful.
Meghan enjoyed working with Mr. S. She was excited and motivated to work on her writing assignment. He helped her work on her outline, characters and plot. We look forward to working with him again.
I wanted to update this review. Matthew is a fantastic tutor! Meghan is tutored in Pre-Algebra, French, and Grammar/Writing. Her grade in G/W went from a 73 to a 94 in six weeks! She is motivated to work with him and he explains things so well, has patience and keeps her focused. We are thankful to have found such an excellent person to tutor her on our first try. Thanks
Matthew is very patient and helped me understand the concept I was learning in math where doing homework was not a struggle.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
