About Kenneth

Welcome to my WyzAnt profile, and thank you for your interest! Here I have the opportunity to give you a brief overview of my academic credentials, my experience tutoring and teaching, and my overall approach as a tutor.

I graduated from the United States Naval Academy in June, 1977, with a Bachelor of Science in Physics. I attended Naval Nuclear Propulsion School and Naval Nuclear Prototype Training - trained on Naval Nuclear Reactors. I served as a Division Officer aboard Fast Attack Nuclear Powered Submarine USS Flasher (SSN-613)where I qualified as Engineering Officer of the Watch on the Submarine Nuclear Reactor Plant and Officer of the Deck Surfaced and Submerged - Qualified in Submarines.

I worked 30 years for Southern California Edison as a Nuclear and Mechanical Engineer and as a Nuclear Training Instructor at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. My last 12 years of employment with Southern California Edison was with the Nuclear Training Division in Engineering Training. My major training focus was on applied mechanical engineering, applied electrical engineering, applied nuclear engineering, applied physics, applied chemistry, and applied material science. All these subject areas are important for the design, operation, and maintenance of a Nuclear Power Plant.

Though I'm still relatively new to WyzAnt, I have been facilitating classes, teaching, and tutoring for over 12 years at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. My job function as a Nuclear Training Instructor was to facilitate classroom training in an adult learning atmosphere. I have provided one-on-one tutoring and small group training on numerous occasions. I worked part-time as a tutor for high school students on Chemistry and Mathematics.

I am willing to tutor in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Chemistry, Physics, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Differential Equations, and Mechanical Engineering subjects such as Heat Transfer, Fluid Flow, and Thermodynamics. Just let me know how I can help you.

If you're in doubt as to whether I teach a certain subject, just ask!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree from the United States Naval Academy with Major in Physics.
I hold Professional Engineer Licenses with the State of California in both Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. Nuclear Engineering requires an extensive background in mathematics - algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and differential equations - and in science - physics and chemistry.

Algebra 1

I am a retired Nuclear and Mechanical Engineer and Nuclear Training Instructor after working for Southern California Edison at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station for over 30 years. Algebra is a fundamental building block for Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. As a training instructor, I had a passion for sharing my knowledge and experience with my students to ensure they grasped the learning objectives and ensure they could successfully perform their duties. That passion exists with any students that I have the privilege to teach.

Algebra 2

I am a retired Nuclear and Mechanical Engineer and Nuclar Training Instructor after working for Southern California Edison at tha San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station for over 30 years.

Astronomy

I am a retired Nuclear and Mechanical Engineer and Nuclar Training Instructor after working for Southern California Edison at tha San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station for over 30 years. Many of the same scientific principles of Astromony are related to the science that forms the fundamental building blocks for Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. Astronomy has been my hobby since I was introduced to it in the 5th grade. As a training instructor, I had a passion for sharing my knowledge and experience with my students to ensure they grasped the learning objectives and ensure they could successfully perform their duties. That passion exists with any students that I have the priviledge to teach.

CBEST

I successfully completed the CBEST examination and am qualified to tutor in CBEST.

Chemistry

I am a retired Nuclear and Mechanical Engineer and Nuclar Training Instructor after working for Southern California Edison at tha San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station for over 30 years. Chemistry is a fundamental building block for Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. Proper Primary System and Secondary System Chemistry is important to minimize piping and tubing corrosion to maintain the integrity of the systems. As a training instructor, I had a passion for sharing my knowledge and experience with my students to ensure they grasped the learning objectives and ensure they could successfully perform their duties. That passion exists with any students that I have the priviledge to teach.

Geometry

I am a retired Nuclear and Mechanical Engineer and Nuclar Training Instructor after working for Southern California Edison at tha San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station for over 30 years. Geometry is a fundamental building block for Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. As a training instructor, I had a passion for sharing my knowledge and experience with my students to ensure they grasped the learning objectives and ensure they could successfully perform their duties. That passion exists with any students that I have the priviledge to teach.

Mechanical Engineering

I have a Bachelor of Science Degree from the US Naval Academy. My major of study was Physics and Naval Engineering (which includes both Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering). I am a Registered Professional Engineer with the State of California in Mechanical Engineering, License # M28662. I worked for 30 years at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station as a Nuclear and Mechanical Engineer.

Precalculus

I am a retired Nuclear and Mechanical Engineer and Nuclar Training Instructor after working for Southern California Edison at tha San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station for over 30 years. Pre-Calculus and Calculus are fundamental building blocks for Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. As a training instructor, I had a passion for sharing my knowledge and experience with my students to ensure they grasped the learning objectives and ensure they could successfully perform their duties. That passion exists with any students that I have the priviledge to teach.

TEAS

The TEAS Exam prepares personnel to be certified as nurses. The examination is heavily weighted in the mathematics and science area. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics and Naval Engineering from the United States Naval Academy. The course content to complete that major includes Chemistry - including Organic Chemistry, Calculus (which requires solid background in Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry), Differential Equations, Physics. I have reviewed typical questions on the TEAS exam provided on the internet and have the knowledge and skills to provide tutoring for the TEAS examination.
