My name is Jeaneen!
I have over 20 years experience working with students in the general education setting Pre-K thru 5th grade and individuals with special needs birth to adult. I have a BA in Elementary Education and MA in Special Education (Multi-Categorical). My area of expertise is determining what instructional strategies work for your child and using those strategies to help your child succeed academically. I worked in the public education setting for two decades. I know what test formats they use. I know why common core (especially math) is confusing to some kids. I know how teacher's assess students reading and comprehension using Fountas & Pinnell's leveled books. If my tutoring sessions help your child perform better in school then I know I've done my job.
Thank you for your consideration Hello,

We can't say enough wonderful things about Ms. Jeaneen! We've tried multiple tutors within our school system and privately, by far Jeaneen is the best. She's used various comprehension strategies to improve our daughter's connection to the material while also expanding her vocabulary. The positive reinforcement that my daughter receives has also improved her self confidence and overall desire to read. It is wonderful to finally see such solid gains!
Gives me work to go over on non tutoring days. Reviews daily session after each one. Very patient and learns what the child likes and how best they work/learn. Very happy so far with her services. She evaluates the child and works, with them from their level of understanding and their starting point.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My area of expertise! I have worked with individuals on the spectrum for 18 years. I am eligible to sit for the BCBA Exam. I am certified in Applied Verbal Behavior. AVB is using the principles of applied behavior analysis to teach non-verbal individuals to make sounds and then gradually (trial after trial) shape the sounds into words. I currently work with families that need assistance with language acquisition, behavioral, sensory, and academic related needs.
I have a BA in Elementary Education and a MA in Special Education. I am certified in teaching individuals with intellectual, behavioral, and learning disabilities. My teaching certificate is valid until June 30, 2019.
I've been a certified Elementary Education Teacher for over 20 years and tutoring individuals with special needs for the last 5 years. These roles required daily math instruction. I find the Touchpoint Math Method extremely helpful in helping my clients reach their goals.
For the past two years, I have been homeschooling an individual with Autism. My lesson plans were aligned with the NC State Standards, field trips were planned to enhance content, and integrated technology in all subjects. I designated certain days to include drama, art, pe, and music. I maintained/organized required documents and administered an approved standardized test, yearly, per NC Homeschooling requirements.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education (K-6th). I took several courses in reading, including how to help teach reading to individuals with special needs (Corrective Reading). As a teacher, I have received training in Fountas & Pinnell and running records.
I received my Master's in Multi-Categorical in 2001. Therefore, I am certified in Specific Learning or Learning, Emotional, and Intellectual Disability. I received a passing score on the PRAXIS; therefore, I am considered a "Highly Qualified" special needs teacher.
I was selected to attend a week-long (40 hours) conference on Applied Verbal Behavior. AVB is used to teach students to talk by breaking speech down to its smallest component (morpheme). A child is shown a reinforcer (cookie) and the child says, "c." After "c" is used consistently by the child you raise the bar to "co" and then continue to shape the word approximations until the child says, "cookie."
