About Jennifer

During my history of 10 years as an RN and as a current graduate student in a professional counseling program, I have cultivated a strong ability to write logically and precisely to the specifications of any writing assignment.

My experience as a pediatric nurse in the intensive care unit helped me develop the capability to communicate and educate adults, teenagers, and children at their level of understanding. I have advanced skills in critical thinking, designing care plans, analyzing case studies, writing essays and research papers, and proofreading.

My background also includes successfully homeschooling two of my children through high school. I currently have two younger children in the public school system, one in elementary and one in middle school. My middle school child has some learning difficulties, which has caused me to perform a great deal of research and to be creative in tutoring him.

This has prepared me to work with students who do not conform easily to mainstream education. It has also allowed me insight into the public school curriculum and common core, as well as some of the challenges in working with children who have different learning styles. I look forward to working with any age student either online or in person, as well as to pass on my great love of reading and writing to others.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Grammar

I am interested in teaching grammar in a way that makes it easy to understand. As a student in graduate school, I know the importance of communicating clearly, and using correct grammar is a big part of that. I have experience tutoring grammar skills for several years with elementary, middle, and high school students

Proofreading

I would love to help proofread and make your writing assignment stand out. Writing has been the bulk of my school workload for the past four years, which has driven me to perfect my grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and writing skills. I am able to work with people from different cultures and make suggestions and necessary corrections for essays and research papers.

Spelling

I have over ten years of experience tutoring spelling. As a graduate student, I know how important spelling is in written communication, and I enjoy helping others gain success in this subject area. I homeschooled two of my children through high school, and this has helped me gain experience in making learning spelling creative and fun.

Vocabulary

I had an English teacher when I was a senior in high school that made me fall in love with vocabulary! It is a passion of mine to turn vocabulary, which is so intertwined with reading comprehension, into a fun learning experience. A tool that I like to use when teaching vocabulary is prefixes, suffixes, and roots. This is something I still use when deciphering words in textbooks that I am unfamiliar with.

Writing

As a graduate student, I am constantly challenged with writing assignments. I have become skillful in answering questions and replies for discussion boards, as well as writing essays, article critiques, book reviews, and research papers in APA format. I am halfway through a professional counseling program and have a 3.9 GPA on a 4 point scale, and I would love to help you succeed in your writing assignments!
