I am a grandmother of three boys (ages nine, four and five months). I became interested in one on one tutoring when the oldest began to struggle in first grade. The younger brother was part of the "Catch Them Early" program because of slow developmental skills. I spent a lot of time working with them one on one. The older child is now in fourth grade doing wonderfully well and the five year old tested out of the program during his first year. It truly believe that all students can lean given the right circumstances. Some just learn differently. I can help your child achieve higher levels of academic success by improving both his classroom grades and test scores.
I am an experienced classroom teacher who uses state-approved core course content to help students develop smarter study skills. My patience and dedication play a large role in my helping to meet the needs of your child. I am a certified teacher who earned a bachelors degree in education from South Carolina State University. I am available to work with your child (grades 1st-8th) in the areas of math, English composition, developmental reading skills and the concept areas of science and social studies. I have seven years of experience with tutoring. As a tutor, I utilize and present lessons with both innovative and fun learning experiences that make students want to learn, retain what has been taught and better understand the concepts presented. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently a South Carolina certified elementary teacher. I have taught in the Florence District One public schools for 28 years. Most of my experience has bee within a self contained-classroom environment (all subject areas taught). Math and Language Arts have always been my passion and strongest subject areas.
Even with all of the technology and improvements around us everyday, I feel that the ability to solve problems and computations in math is still a necessary and integral part of life. I am a certified elementary math instructor who has helped many students throughout the many years of my career.
