In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Master's degree in Education. I have taught Study Skills courses at the University of Phoenix (reading, writing, time management, preparing for tests, and strategies for public speaking presentations). I have also tutored student teachers at the University of South Carolina on improving their study skills and give strategies on how to help their students. As a secondary teacher for 20 years, I have taught hundreds of students. As part of my curriculum/lesson planning at the beginning year, I spend time to give my students various strategies and ways to improve their study skills to improve their academic grades/success.
