About James

My undergraduate degree was in music. I have studied music since I was six years old. I have taught music privately since 1984. I have regularly required my music students to complete music theory assignments. I have taught cello students in addition to other instruments.

I have been a teacher for several years. I love to teach. I have helped teach my three children in a homeschool setting (my two oldest children are in college now with one still at home). I have taught math (all levels), sciences (biology, chemistry, physics), music (each child plays three instruments).

I have been their writing coach for book reports and research projects. I speak publicly weekly to groups of people on how their life can change in order to affect family change whereby their community will be changed.

My goal as a teach will be to coach you to discover how to solve your questions. You will discover there are usually a variety of ways to find a solution. We will utilize your textbook and class notes as well as alternate ways of finding solutions. I will assign homework after each session.

I have always enjoyed math. As a homeschool parent, I have taught my three children math during most of their schooling. My two oldest daughters placed into Calculus 1 as they entered college. I still have a child at home.

I enjoy people of other cultures. I have a limited understanding of Spanish. I have studied other languages from a musical standpoint (translation in order to sing). I have helped my three children to begin to read. I have compassion for those not understanding the English language and desire to help them learn English inv order to better assimilate into our community.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you discover answers to problems in life.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
