Bio

As an English professor for twenty plus years, I focus on meeting my students where they are in terms of their reading and writing skills. I never judge my students based on their individual backgrounds or reading and writing skills. I tailor our work together based on each assignment. I give detailed feedback on each assignment. As an English professor for twenty plus years, I focus on meeting my students where they are in terms of their reading and writing skills. I never judge my students based on their individual backgrounds or reading and writing skills. I tailor our work together based on each assignment. I give detailed feedback on each assignment. I allow as many revisions required to help my students do their best work. My students elected me as Outstanding English Professor for ten years straight. I am very effective working one on one with my students, and have them give me feedback on what is working well for them and what is not working well for them, and adjust my tutoring according to this feedback. I have had extensive experience tutoring one on one, giving my students detailed feedback immediately. I love the classroom and tutoring, always putting the needs of my students above all else. I make sure that I am available to my students any time. I have decades of working one on one with my students; therefore, I have learned to recognize each student's learning style, and adjust my presentation of the material to each student's needs. I learn as much from my students as they learn from me. I find it very stimulating being exposed to my students' wide range of responses to our work, which keeps me intellectually keen and excited about our work together. The cornerstone of my relationships with my students is respect and trust. Learning thrives in an atmosphere built on the mutual respect and trust. And, I love the learning process.

I have a BA in English Literature, High Honors, an MA in Reading Specialty, magna cum laude, attended law school, and earned a Ph.D. in Ethnolinguistic Theory, High Honors. I have taught at an HBCU, a Jesuit College, a Lutheran College, 2 major universities, as well as at an open enrollment technical college. At this technical college, we offered our students 2 years of developmental courses before enrolling said students in college level courses. Major college courses I have taught and tutore

My work focuses on the development of Creole Languages, specifically the Gullah/GeeChee Language spoken in the SC Sea Islands. In addition to my scholarly work, I wrote a novel that code switches between Standard American English and the creole Gullah/GeeChee language. I complied an extensive Glossary of this creole language, as well as an extensive bibliography to support my work. My work was primarily supervised by Dr. Jerry Cline-Baily, a member of the Ibo community. He is from Siearra Leone, where another Creole Language. Krio, is spoken. Krio is a mirror image of Gullah/Geechee. Dr. Cline Baily was educated at Oxford University and was my professor at Xavier University, a Jesuit Institution. There is evidence that Gullah/GeeChee is the root of Black American English. This is a theory that begs further investigation. Gullah/GeChee is a creole that includes the European languages spoken by the slave traders, 6-8 African languages, as well as at least 6 Native American Languages. I am very well versed in linguistic theories. I have been a college professor for nearly thirty years. Ph.D. in Ethnolinguistic Theory. I love my work.
