About Robert

My educational background includes a BSc from McGill University in Montreal, where I majored in Meteorology. I earned an MSc in Meteorology at Rutgers University, and took additional graduate work at University of SC in mathematics and groundwater science. For a couple years I was a substitute teacher at Irmo High School, primarily math and physics. I also did some private tutoring for high school students. All my children were successful students from Irmo High School and went on to graduate degrees.

On a more personal level I am married with 3 children and also 3 grandchildren. I retired after 42 years with the National Weather Service. I was a soccer player until my middle 40s, I still walk 5 miles every day and I am an active sailor on Lake Murray, with certification on keelboats and coastal cruising (courses taken on the ocean at St Simon's Island). I like math and science, I enjoy it, and I like staying active. I am also certified to Teach English as a Second Language (TESL).

I enjoy math, I have an intuitive understanding, and I especially enjoy working out word problems because they make the mathematics real and relevant.

I know a bit of French, and have recently started learning some Spanish. I understand how difficult it is to grasp idioms and nuance in a foreign language, and I have taken an online certification in teaching English as a foreign language. I have traveled to Europe and to Saudi Arabia during my career, and have always enjoyed the interactions in those countries.

Do not fear math and science! It all makes sense.
