I was a teacher for four years. I have three years of experience in Kindergarten and one year of experience in First grade. I have recently left the field so I can stay at home with our daughter for one year. I specialized in urban schools and my four years of experience are in Title 1 schools. All of the students I taught were high risk and well below grade level in academics.
As a tutor my goals are to not only to increase their academic success but to also increase their confidence. I would start out with a quick assessment, ones that I used in my own classroom, to see where your child falls and what areas they need help in. I would like to communicate with their teacher to gain knowledge on the specific skills they are being taught so I can provide extra help. Every child learns differently and I would discover your child's strengths and build off of them. I want children to love going to school and to love learning!

Phonics is one of the basics of reading. I taught kindergarten for three years and a kindergarten teacher works extensively with phonics so a child can start blending sounds and learn problem solving skills to help them read.
I am a patient teacher and understand that every child learns at their own pace. Every child learns differently and a good teacher finds their strengths and builds off of these skills to help them succeed. A love for school and learning is very imperative to help them succeed in higher grades and I plan to instill this love for learning in your child. I was a teacher for four years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina. I have four years of teaching experience.
