About Shirley

My name is Shirley L. I was always interested in science, technology, engineering, and math fields. My undergraduate major was chemistry with minors in math and physics. I worked as a research chemist at Columbia University following this academic tenure. As a graduate student at the University of South Carolina (USC), I majored in experimental psychology with a minor in statistics.

After completing my masters, I taught statistics, and research design. I also performed consulting services at universities (i.e., at Clemson University researched how to better increase k through 12 students' math learning), and state agencies (i.e., United States Department of Housing and Urban Development). At USC Research and Statistics Laboratory as a graduate research assistant my responsibilities included tutoring students and staff with their statistics based on their subjects, or project. The laboratory scheduled required consultants availability for students' needs including SPSS and SAS programming packages.

Within statistics courses, subjects built upon each other. Therefore, it is important for following students learned topic levels, help them with necessary background to comprehend continual class presentations. For example, understanding descriptive variables and their properties were followed by using the correct descriptive statistics tests.

My purpose is continuing practicing, and performing research toward upgrading students' math skills in the United States. My tutoring policies include advance cancellation by phone or email at least 4 hours prior to a scheduled meeting. The initial session of students' subject area evaluation will be based on students' providing homework, and test results which would be free. Continual sessions will be based the students' evaluations of difficulties and improvements in statistics.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
