About Niesha

I am currently a Learning Specialist at University of South Carolina. I have been in this position since January working one-on-one with students who have diagnosed learning concerns (IEP's). The main role of my job is to help students develop fundamental and targeted academic skills so that are making progress in their education. During this time I also review academic strengths and weaknesses with individual students based on educational assessment program results.

Prior to USC, I spent time at The University of Mississippi serving as a learning specialist and tutor coordinator for 2 years. I also worked with students full-time to help them develop the skill set to be successful. As a Learning Specialist, I have developed an effective approach to work with students with academic concerns using my unique background as a former student. Being able to find that common ground I have been able to establish a great rapport with students and motivating them to be all that they desire. Also, in this position I monitored day to day tutorial responsibilities of over 150 tutors, develop and provide a variety of teaching activities, skill development, study skills, decision making, and time-management to students.

I can honestly say that I absolutely love what I do. The best part of the job is the moment when it all "makes sense" to the student. Everyday we strive for small victories that will lead to larger victories such as a higher exam grade. Every student learns differently. It's all about finding out what works for them and running with it. I love getting in touch with my creative side to help a student better understand the material. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions!

Thanks!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Reading
