About Gareth

I have been teaching for over seven years. I have worked with many students all over the years with different abilities. I have taught students with Deafness using American Sign Language. I also taught student with LD, and typical students.

As part of my teaching I have utilized grouping. I have also done one-on-one as a regular part of my class, where I can assess on spot where the student is at and what to do to get that students to where we are. It is not always easy, but I am usually quick to figure out what is best for each individual student. I normally sought feedback from students as they know themselves best, and this feedback help to tailor the lessons to their individual needs.

As part of my special Education qualifications, the teaching and learning of reading is a must. I have experience in teaching students reading as a daily requirement.

As part of my course of study, mathematics and mathematics methodology was a key part. In mathematics methodology, one is charged with the responsibility to identify someone's errors and to create ways to help the individual reduce such errors.

Not many people are aware that spelling has to be taught. I have great ways of helping individuals learn to spell and remember words through the use of muscle memory as one strategy.

I have a keen sense of hearing and listening. Through my clear enunciation and and pronunciation coupled with strategies in Syntax and Semantics will help the child improve.

I look forward to hearing from you and working with you to improve and achieve your educational goals.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary Math

I have qualification in Mathematics methodology, an area in which I identify the errors a student is making in mathematics and create creative plans and strategies to address them.

Phonics

I am officially qualified as a Special Education Teacher. During this course of study, I studied a math content in which we were trained to identify and correct errors in mathematics. I have worked for five years teaching students at the elementary level and therefore I think I would serve the students at that level better in Mathematics. I also did a course where we learned to teach spelling, as this is a skill to be taught and not just developed. Based on that course and my practices, I think I am sufficiently qualified to teach persons spelling. I also did a course which equipped me with the skills necessary to manipulate and build phonemic, morphemic, syntax, and Symantec skills in learners. As a result, I do think I am qualified enough to teach Reading.

Reading

I have worked with different categories of students throughout the years including: students with intellectual disability, typical students, and students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
