I have taught at both public and private schools on the elementary, middle and high school levels. I have tutored students who have learning disabilities as well as the gifted. I also managed a title one after school tutorial program while I was employed as a fifth grade teacher. My responsibility was to ensure that teachers were properly aligned with students according to their needs.
Although my teaching background is in science and math, I also taught English and Social Studies. I also tutor people in African American History, and teach the Gullah culture. I do translations from Gullah to English and can read and speak Gullah fluently. In addition I'm a Chautauqua Performer and do stage reenactments of famous African Americans from the past.
Biology was my major in college. I have also been a part of the following organizations which allowed me to engage into to scientific research and to collaborate with scientist. Those organizations are the South Carolina Marine Educators Association (SCMEA), The National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) and the Environmental Education Association of South Carolina. I've also participated with groups of teachers from South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia at COSEE-SE (Centers for Ocean Science Education Excellence Southeast in which we formed a relationship between teachers and ocean research scientist . This allowed us to implement ongoing scientific research into our school's curriculum.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
