About Nicole

Hello! My name is Nicole. I'm currently an undergraduate student at the University of South Carolina and will be graduating in May with Bachelor of Arts degrees in International Studies and Spanish. After graduation, I will attend Law School and pursue my interests in Immigration Law and International Law. Although these are my main passions, it is difficult to narrow down my interests because I am passionate about education and knowledge as a whole. I am constantly striving to improve my own skills and learn as much as I can to be a productive and well-rounded student.
I have spent the last three years working as a Supplemental Instruction Leader (Teaching assistant) at the University of South Carolina for Business Calculus through the Student Success Center. I attend my assigned class, work closely with the professor, create lesson plans, and hold review sessions for the students in my class. As my job title implies, I serve as a leader for other students. My main goal is success. I promote a positive and comfortable learning environment to foster success in all areas of a student's life. During my sessions, I like to focus on a mix of helping him/her/them to have a deeper understanding of the information and to build a positive relationship through humor and positive reinforcement.
Furthermore, as a Spanish major, I am passionate about helping others to improve their Spanish abilities. In high school, I worked as a Spanish tutor for 2 years and volunteered for 2 years as an English as a Second Language (ESL) assistant teacher at a local immigrant organization. I have been studying Spanish since Kindergarten and have had the opportunity to study Spanish in Spain. I currently volunteer as an interpreter at two local medical clinics and as a Spanish tour guide at the Columbia Museum of Contemporary Art. Although I am not pursuing a career in the medical or art fields, I believe that well-rounded vocabulary and skills are necessary for success. I strive to maintain these values when tutoring students and use a variety of techniques and activities to ensure balanced progress between oral, written, and reading proficiency. As a result of my experiences, I understand how to create productive one on one tutoring sessions, as well as group tutoring sessions.

I love working with any and all students to serve as a positive role model and to promote success! Please feel free to contact me for more details and/or to schedule a lesson!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
