University of South Carolina (Sports Management)
Hello, my name is Joe F, and I am a Senior at USC. While I am a Sports Management major, I am passionate about math, a subject in which I have always excelled. I parlayed this passion into tutoring, something I have done since I was 15. As a freshman, I was a Supplemental Instruction leader at USC, which is a tutor position that involves helping large classes. I am now looking for students to help one-on-one, and I am incredibly flexible in doing so. I can work anytime throughout the day. I am excited about any opportunities that come my way, and will continue to use my experience to help students succeed.
My style of tutoring involves a serious weight placed on re-learning the building blocks of whatever particular concept the student is currently having trouble with. Oftentimes, the student is more than bright enough to fix their problems on their own, but had trouble picking up or focusing on the fundamental basics that are often under-taught in the classroom. Every problem works as a house of cards, and there is seldom enough attention paid to the bottom row that is ultimately the most important part of the structure. By focusing on that bottom row, and assigning each part of the problem a function and purpose, students can more easily understand where each piece fits in to a larger-scale concept. Students find this to be much more fulfilling and comprehensible than continually working through examples until they are able to regurgitate techniques during a test. In most subjects, mathematics especially, every new lesson builds on their predecessors; getting to the root of the issue is paramount in moving forward to finding current and future answers to educational questions. I pride myself in not only seeing immediate improvement, but sustained success for most of my clients thus far, in addition to building relationships with each student that is conducive to both trust and open-mindedness. As an experienced, successful, and affordable option for students everywhere, I hope to expand my clientele to service more and more students. Hello, my name is Joe F, and I am a Senior at USC. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
