Good day everyone. My name is Ron W. I am currently a first grade teacher at the Center for Learning, Inc here in Columbia, SC and have been tutoring one on one, since 1999 at Estil High School in Hampton School District II. I am my school's former Elementary Spanish Teacher as well as one their former Music Teachers. I too am currently the school's annual Science Fair Director and I am responsible for our annual Author's Tea Event.
I am retiring next month, but would love the opportunity to continue working with students who struggle academically. It is rare finding African-American men in this field who are willing to go beyond the call of duty to make sure children make their academic mark. I recently hosted a community workshop entitled, Math Madness. Also for children. Last week I facilitated a community workshop for children entitled, Test-Taking Methods & Strategies. It was the first in Northeast, Columbia, but it was a success. Special thanks to Albert's Deli for being our sponsor and allowing us to have it there. I only tutor at the Richland Library in Northeast on Parklane Rd, but I bring my A Game everyday! As I often times say in my classroom, "It's time to go to work!" Good day everyone. My name is Ron W. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to tutor Elementary (K-6th), because I have taught Elementary School for 4 years at the Center for Learning, Inc. and was very successful at it. I currently tutor students from 1st grade in Developmental Reading, GuidedReading, and Independent Reading. I also tutor Elementary, Middle, and High school students in ELA. College students also receive assistance from me writing essays and completing research papers in Chicago Style, APA, and MLA formatting.
I am qualified to tutor in this specific subject because it was a requirement in order to teach Kindergarten and 1st grade. Because I made Phonics fun, meaningful, and engaging, the students were reading on a grade far higher than their original grade by the 3rd quarter of school. Phonics deals with sound. Children love making sounds.
