About Sarah

I graduated high school in the top 10% of my class, then went straight to Clemson University where I obtained my Bachelor's in Psychology a semester early. After taking a few years off, I returned to Clemson University for a Master's in Professional Communication. During my time in graduate school, I tutored in Clemson's writing center and taught freshman composition, so I am confident in my abilities to help students improve their writing abilities. Furthermore, I am well-versed in the expectations of college writing and work in other college level.

I hold students to a high, but not unreachable, standard. I believe that a significant portion of ability is belief in that ability and that students hold the key to most of their success. I work primarily on helping others discover their passions and talents and how to channel those into their work. When the student cares about the work and what it means to him/her in the present and in the future, this student tends to both enjoy the work more and be more successful.

Algebra is not my strongest tutoring subject. However, I did well in Algebra 1 when I took it years ago, and my abilities have only improved. For any techniques that I am not as familiar with, it takes me very little time to remind myself of the process. I have helped family members in this area, and they went on to succeed in these classes.

I have taught and tutored English and writing, and I have been proficient to advanced in writing for most of my life. I believe that all students have a voice. It is my job to help them find and channel that voice.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
