Clemson University, Clemson, SC (Graphic Comm.)
I am studying at Clemson University pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Communications. I have taken many classes related to Web Design, Graphic Design, Printing (various types), and other subjects that falls under Graphic Communications. I am currently enrolled in a course that is specifically on web design. I have taken other classes that had a focus on web design, also.
I am comfortable with basic through Intermediate HTML and CSS coding. HTML Elements such as Images, List, Tables, Forms, etc. CSS stylesheets both inline and external. I am also knowledgeable with terms and applications of common Graphic Design terms and practices.
I have helped friends and fellow students with checking proper coding syntax. I am in the works of designing a website for a client. I have had an internship with an International Flexographic Printing Company (Printpack Inc.). My responsibilities included quality assurance of client's jobs before running on a Flexographic Press. I worked with design software to assure consistency from a previous job to an updated design layout.
My tutoring methods would include going over the initial assignment and walking through the basic steps. If error-checking code, I would assist in finding the errors and helping the student understand why it is incorrect and assist in finding the correct element. I can help students learn new terms related to graphic design and web design. The basic terms are the building blocks of making anything in the Graphics Industry and I would emphasize the importance of reviewing the basics (certain terms) if the same sort of questions arise. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I do not have previous experience in tutoring in English, but I have always had an interest and a general knack in being successful in my English classes. As for tutoring in English, I would help with writing skills, reading comprehension, reviewing and creating vocabulary cards, explaining what is incorrect and how to learn the correct grammar/syntax/vocabulary/etc and much more.
I have taken a couple of classes at Clemson University with a focus on web design. I have coded in HTML and CSS and I am constantly learning and re-learning elements in HTML. I am in the process of designing a website for a client and several websites/web pages for class assignments.
