My passion of teaching Spanish as a second language began 13 years ago when I started to work in a Spanish school for international students in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico. I have a Bachelor in Education. I have taken several courses focused on teaching Spanish. My experience is focused in small groups, not more than 5 students, and tutoring one to one. I consider it very important to focus the tutoring not only in a grammar lesson, but in cultural and social aspects also. I think it's very important that students understand that to learn any language is a process and it takes time to process the information. I believe if you want to learn, you will do it!!!
Using an eclectic method has worked very well for me. I understand that all students are unique and they have different needs. According to my experience some students require more written exercises, others learn faster when they have visual materials, also some students prefer to talk. I am flexible and I can adapt the topic as the student requires.
As a show of respect I prefer a 24-hour cancellation policy. If it is necessary I can re-schedule at the student's convenience. Gladys is teaching my children ages 5 and 8 Spanish. She had really creative advice on how to practice the Spanish! She makes learning fun! Great teacher!
Thanks Katherine, I really enjoy the time with your kids, they are very smart!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked for 13 years with international students, I have experience working with kids, teenagers and adults. I studied Education and I graduated with honors. I have taken several courses in teaching Spanish.
Before I decide how I'll teach a subject, I prefer to know what a student's needs are. I like to try different methods in order to help the student feel more comfortable with the subject. Also, I prefer constant student participation, because that is the best way to process the information.
